Mariah Carey has made her feelings known on a new rapper using a sample of her hit Shake It Off but not everyone seemed to get the joke.

It comes after YTK used a sample of the track for his own version called Let It Off and an A&R consultant going by @rnbtommy shared a campaign to get the sample cleared.

He posted a clip of the song and music video on Twitter, adding: ‘Mariah Carey has 24 hours to respond.’

The clip racked up over 19,000 retweets and 67,000 likes in less than a day on the social network – and even managed to catch the eye of Mariah herself.

She took to Twitter to give her verdict on the demand, writing: ‘How about y’all have 24 hours to respond to my lawyers.’

Mariah also added a gif with the letters ‘GTFO’ meaning ‘Get the f**k out’, hammering the point home.

However, it appears that the sample may have a chance of getting cleared after all, as @rnbtommy clarified: ‘hey I want to reiterate that Mariah was joking, please stop saying rude s**t to her.

‘She told that same joke to Quest Love hours before she responded to the tweet and put us in contact with the people who can help us clear it! so it’s not a problem on her end.’

He then shared text message exchange with Questlove who wrote: ‘Aight, y’all owe me man. That was near a 4 hour interaction.

‘1. Theoretically it looks like a yes, 2. Because of the red tape of it all (“tell them they better hit my lawyer in 24hrs bwahahahahahhahaha” – MC, she’s a prankster) her lawyers have to be called.’

Providing the legal team can get the sample cleared for use, it looks like Mariah’s down to let YTK use the track, savage response and all.
