Mark Ruffalo has signed himself up for new Netflix movie The Adam Project and he’s reportedly set to play Ryan Reynolds’ dad in the film
Naturally, we were a little confused given that the fact both actors Mark, 53, and Ryan, 44, are roughly around a similar age – but given it’s a movie all about time travel, it kinda works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Adam Project sees Ryan’s character travel back in time to team up with his 13-year-old self (played by Walker Scobell) and together they then have to find their late father in order to save the future.
Their father – a physicist, being played by Mark – who is now the same age as Ryan’s character as we’re working with the past. You follow?
The movie will also star Catherine Keener as its resident villain, who has stolen powerful technology from Mark’s physicist character.
Other stars signed on for the film include Zoe Saldana and Jennifer Garner, who previously starred alongside Mark in the much-loved rom-com 13 Going on 30.
Few other details are known about the project, which will be the first film produced under Ryan’s self-funded program, The Group Effort Initiative, which aims to promote diversity and give more people of colour a chance to work on his productions.
Ryan will be teaming up with Shawn Levy once again on the movie, as Levy is set direct.
He and Levy have joined forces on upcoming movie Free Guy, that was filmed in Vancouver and also stars Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer.
Meanwhile, Mark’s addition to The Adam Project comes after he recently won a best actor Emmy for his appearance in series I Know This Much Is True, where he plays twins Dominick and Thomas Birdsey.
The Avengers: Endgame star, who is best known for playing Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, urged others to fight for ‘those who are less fortunate’ as he accepted his gong.
Giving a speech remotely from his home, Mark said: ‘Our story is about family, it’s about a man fighting for his brother, who is living with mental illness. A story so common in the United States. How are we going to deal and take care of each other
‘We do that with love and we do that by fighting for them. We have to come together. If you have privilege, you have to fight for those who are less fortunate. One thing I’ve learned about my family is we are stronger together.’
