Matthew McConaughey has shared a candid memoir of his life, including being molested by a man when he was a teenager.

The Oscar-winning actor, 50, released his memoir, Greenlights, on Tuesday, letting fans in to parts of his life he has never shared details of before.

He wrote: ‘I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was 15. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex.

‘Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case.’

He continued: ‘I was molested by a man when I was 18 while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.’

Listing more of his most unusual experiences, Matthew added: ‘I’ve done peyote in Real de Catorce, Mexico, in a cage with a mountain lion.

‘I’ve had seventy-eight stitches sewn into my forehead by a veterinarian. I’ve had four concussions from falling out of four trees, three of them on a full moon.

‘I’ve bongoed naked until the cops arrested me. I resisted arrest. I applied to Duke, UT Austin, Southern Methodist, and Grambling for my college education. I got accepted to three out of the four.

‘I’ve never felt like a victim. I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy.’

Matthew, who has three children with model Camila Alves, has never spoken out about the assault publicly before.

He supported the University of Texas’s Students United for Rape Elimination program (SURE WALK) in 2016, where he shuttled students home from campus after dark to ensure they got back safely.

The university had shared a photo of him driving a golf cart of students, writing: ‘Longhorns take care of each other, and it’s ‘safe’ to say Matthew McConaughey agrees. Don’t forget to use SURE Walk when traveling home late at night; you never know who might pick you up!’

Matthew also revealed more details about his parents’ turbulent marriage in the book, revealing his mum and dad – who were married three times and divorced twice – would go from fighting to having sex on the kitchen floor in the midst of an argument.

Matthew’s dad, James, died of a heart attack in 1992 while having sex with Matthew’s mother Kay, and she admitted she would have preferred if he ha focused on the ‘affectionate’ times in the book.

Kay told the New York Times: ‘It was a rocky and passionate love affair we had, but I do wish Matthew would have told more of the stories about me and his dad’s love, affection and commitment to each other.’

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey is out now.
