There has been a recent trend of social media influencers picking up boxing gloves and fighting in high-profile fights.
One of the best instances is Jake Paul, whose bout against Love Island‘s Tommy Fury drew a significant audience, including individuals who had never been interested in boxing before.
The bout, which took place in Saudi Arabia on February 26, sold over 300,000 pay-per-view packages, and Jake claimed to have made $30 million from it.
Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams OBE is fine with influencers entering the boxing industry since it boosts the sport’s appeal.
‘I think it’s good,’ she told Metro.co.uk while speaking at the Prince’s Trust Awards. It’s beneficial to the sport.
‘It’s attracting more admirers. ‘Go for it,’ she says.
When questioned about Tommy V Jake, Nicola grinned and replied, ‘It was what it was. It was a duel between two amateurs.’
She didn’t seem very enthused with the match.
Nicola has every right to cast judgement because she concluded her career unbeaten and held the WBO female flyweight belt.
Nicola, 40, has someone special to keep her engaged in retirement: Taylor Adams, her first child with girlfriend Ella Baig, was born in July.
With over a year of fatherhood under her belt, Nicola gave her thoughts on the experience thus far.
‘It’s really good. Seeing Taylor’s lovely face in the morning, and the little new things that he’s doing. It’s great,’ she told us.
Nicola already has a favourite aspect of motherhood: “It’s definitely seeing Taylor’s face, and seeing him smiling and happy.”
‘He’s starting to try to walk and talk. Every day I wake up and think, “Oh my god, what is he going to do today?”‘
She, like many new parents, is finding the ‘loss of sleep’ to be the most difficult component.
