Niecy Nash and her wife Jessica Betts were one of the many couples who had to improvise their wedding celebrations amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic this year.
However, the When They See Us star found a great way to mark her first holiday season with her wife, amid stay-at-home measures, with homemade holiday cards.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk as part of HP’s holiday campaign, the Claws actress explained: ‘One of the best things I stumbled across recently is the HP printables. As you know, I’m newly married and I wanted to cement it in some way.
‘But because we have been in quarantine and staying home, I was like “How do we stay home and get this done?”
‘Then I found out about printables and realized I could make some customized cards so I got dolled up in a long red tulle skirt and a very fitted red turtleneck – I really looked like I was going to the red carpet.’
The Never Have I Ever continued: ‘But I really just went to sit on my sofa and laid across it in a very dramatic fashion and took the most gorgeous holiday photos.
‘But then I was like “I’m not just the glamorous girl, I’m a fun girl” so I got my family to put on pajamas and pull out our instruments for a really fun holiday card. I definitely did some that were naughty and some that were nice.’
The 50-year-old chose to partner with HP with the hopes to inspire others to get creative together during these unexpected ‘staycations’ due to Covid-19.
She told us: ‘I love the printables because, for one, it’s free crafts and activities for your whole family. Who doesn’t love free? So that’s an uptick and you can have so much fun customizing holiday cards for your kids, friends, and family at this time when we are apart.’
The actress explained how this year has helped her to value what is most important in life as she continued: ‘What is weirdly beautiful at this time in the world is that we are leaning more about things that are really important and the things that have more sentiment. So it’s a beautiful thing.’
After what has been a year of significant change for the star, the Uncorked actress admitted she is looking forward to more happiness in the new year.
Niecy stated: ‘I hope not only to continue to curate happiness for myself, but to be able to gift it to people in other ways.
‘Whether that is through art, inspiration, word, deed…My being an actor is what I do but my “who” is to be service in the world. So I want to continue to serve up some happiness.’
