Sir Elton John and David Furnish were seen beside French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte as Paris burnt for the third night in a row.
According to The Telegraph, the President infuriated the French people by attending Sir Elton’s concert in Paris on Wednesday night, as locals rioted over a tragic police gunshot that resulted in the death of adolescent Nael M.
Following the concert, President Macron, 45, and Brigitte, 70, were seen backstage with Sir Elton, 76, and his spouse Furnish, 60.
The public has been upset by his schmoozing with the pop legend, with Thierry Mariani, an MEP for National Rally, speaking out against the President.
‘While France was on fire, Macron was not at the side of his minister of the interior or the police but he preferred to applaud Elton John,’ he said, as reported by The Spectator.
On Tuesday, June 27, police shot and killed a teenage teenager identified only as Nael M during a traffic check in the town of Nanterre, just west of Paris.
Several French cities have experienced three nights of rioting since the tragedy, with at least 667 individuals detained, according to French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
According to local media, violence has extended to the Belgian city of Brussels.
This is the second fatal traffic stop shooting in France this year. After three deaths in 2021 and two in 2020, there were a record 13 deaths during police traffic stops in France last year.
Nael’s mother, who did not want to be identified, has spoken out about her son’s tragic death.
‘I lost a 17-year-old, I was alone with him, and they took my baby away from me. He was still a child, he needed his mother,’ she said.
His Grandmother, who spoke anonymously, stated that she will “never forgive” those responsible for Nael’s murder.
‘I will never forgive them. My grandson died, they killed my grandson. We are not happy at all, I am against the government,’ she said.
‘They killed my grandson, now I don’t care about anyone, they took my grandson from me, I will never forgive them in my life, never, never, never.’
