Paris Jackson has revealed she suffers from PTSD following paparazzi encounters as a child, which can manifest as auditory hallucinations.
The 23-year-old, who is the daughter of Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe, spoke to Willow Smith on Wednesday’s upcoming episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk about the lasting effects of post-traumatic stress disorder after encounters with the paparazzi throughout her life.
She revealed via Associated Press: ‘I experience auditory hallucinations sometimes with camera clicks and severe paranoia and have been going to therapy for a lot of things, but that included.
‘I’ll hear a trash bag rustling and flinch in panic. I think it’s standard PTSD.’
Her dad Michael used to try to shield Paris and her brothers, Prince and Blanket (born Prince Michael Jackson II) from the camera by making them wear masks in public as children.
Paris has previously spoken about her diagnosis of PTSD after claiming she went through the same experience as Paris Hilton at therapeutic school.
The socialite, 40, alleged she had been subjected to abuse as a teenager while attending a school which was to help youth with mental health and emotional issues.
Paris, who went to a similar boarding school, said in October: ‘I stand with @ParisHilton & all the survivors. #BreakingCodeSilence.
‘Please swipe up to sign this petition to shut the school down & stop the abuse of children.’
She added: ‘As a girl who also went to a behaviour modification ‘boarding school’ for almost two years as a teenager, and has since been diagnosed with PTSD because of it, and continue to have nightmares and trust issues, I stand with @ParisHilton and the other survivors.’
Red Table Talk airs Wednesdays at 5pm BST (12pm EST) on Facebook Watch.
