Peter Andre has shared his heartache over not being able to visit his elderly parents in Australia, especially as his mother is ill.
The singer, 47, who grew up in Sydney and Australia’s Gold Coast, hasn’t been able to see his parents due to travel restrictions in place during the coronavirus pandemic.
Australia first shut its borders internationally in March last year, shortly after Covid-19 first hit, with the government enforcing a strict ban on international travel and cruise ship departures.
It’s been reported that the travel ban could remain place until late 2021, with Peter revealing he has been in touch with the Australian Embassy in the hope that he can sort a visit.
While some people are being granted travel to Australia under special circumstances, Peter explained that he ‘doesn’t fit the criteria’ and isn’t sure when he’ll finally be allowed to see his parents, who live down under, again.
Writing in his latest column for new! magazine, the Mysterious Girl hit-maker told fans: ‘My number one priority this year is to go and see my mum and dad in Australia, as I miss them too much.’
‘I am anxiously awaiting the borders opening as it’s been upsetting not seeing them, especially as my mum isn’t very well,’ he said.
Peter revealed: ‘I actually contacted the Australian Embassy because there are special circumstances whereby family members can fly over, but sadly I don’t fit the criteria.’
Travel overseas is currently prohibited in England under new lockdown restrictions, unless you have a legally permitted reason to do so.
The British government has enforced a third national lockdown in England in order to tackle a new strain of coronavirus that is said to spreading at an ‘alarming’ rate.
Schools have been closed once again and dad-of-four Peter was seen reacting to the news on Instagram, as he urged his followers to stay safe.
‘As a dad with kids of various ages attending school, and with Junior and children his age having their GSCEs put in Jeopardy, this is gonna be a very hard number of weeks,’ the star wrote.
‘All the vulnerable, those with mental health, hospitality, teachers….. retail, the list goes on. it’s absolutely devastating. Thinking of us all. Plse be safe everyone (sic).’
Peter is dad to son Junior, 15, and daughter Princess, 13, from his marriage to ex-wife Katie Price, as well as daughter Amelia, six, and son Theo, four, who he shares with wife Emily MacDonagh.
Emily has been working as a junior doctor for the NHS throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, with Peter previously revealing how ‘proud’ he is of her.
