Peter Andre defends Eamonn Holmes after Ruth Langsford ‘fat shaming’ complaints: ‘They were having a laugh’

Peter Andre has spoken out in defence of Eamonn Holmes after he was accused of ‘fat-shaming’ his wife Ruth Langsford on the programme.

Viewers took issue with a moment during an on-air game where callers had to describe what was behind Eamonn, with one contestant getting a picture of Kate Middleton.

When they said Kate was ‘thin’ and ‘married to…’ Eamonn turned to Ruth and said: ‘Well it’s not you, darling.’

He poked fun at the complaints in the next episode, and now singer Peter has said the couple were ‘just having a laugh’ but warned that Eamonn might want to reign it in.

Writing in his new! magazine column the Mysterious Girl hitmaker said: ‘From what I know of them as a couple it’s just banter and they were just having a laugh – I’m sure there was no maliciousness meant.

‘Although maybe it’s not the best thing to say on national TV in future!’

Having been called out on social media by This Morning viewers, Eamonn went on to address their comments in a beauty segment the next day.

‘Now we’re talking beauty treatments because some people are afflicted with…’ Eamonn explained while pulling the skin on his neck.

‘It happens to us all,’ Ruth weighed in. ‘It suddenly happens, doesn’t it have you found? One minute I go “Oh, that’s alright” and then suddenly I hit 50 and I went “What’s that? What’s this?”’

‘I can’t make a comment on it, darling because people online will accuse me of shaming you for some reason,’ Eamonn joked.
