An online petition calling for Katie Price to be banned from owning animals has reached more than 21,000 signatures after the former glamour model showed off her latest puppy.
The self-professed animal lover has owned a veritable menagerie of pets over the years, including horses, dogs, cats, guineapigs, a chameleon and a hedgehog.
The 44-year-old TV star, who has been warned she faces prison time after pleading guilty to breaching a restraining order by sending ex-husband Kieran Hayler an abusive text about his fiancée, has recently been sharing pictures of herself with her horses and dogs online.
Introducing her new dog, tiny puppy Captain, on Instagram earlier this month saw Katie met with many sceptical comments from her followers, while another picture with her Chihuahua Buddy also provoked concerned comments.
‘Please look after this one and keep it safe,’ wrote one follower, while another posted: ‘Look after it, a dog is for life and not just for a play thing.’
The petition, which was started last year, has seen a wave of new signatures following Katie’s debuting of Captain and now stands, at the time of publication, at 21,932.
The mum of five has a complex history of pet ownership over the years, which has included her Alsatian, Sparkle, being killed by a car after it escaped her property and ran out onto a busy A road in 2020, while pet Queenie was run over by a pizza delivery van.
One of her horses was also killed in a crash.
Last year, her daughter Princess’s puppy Rolo reportedly suffocated to death after being crushed in an electric armchair in a tragic accident after allegedly being left unsupervised.
He had only been with Katie’s family for three weeks at the time.
The petition was launched by a concerned animal lover in light of the news of Rolo’s death.
‘A puppy has died in the last 24 hours in Katie Price’s care, she bought this puppy for her 13-year-old child three weeks ago,’ it reads.
‘In the last five years more animals have died from lack of care. Horses. Dogs. Cats Lizards Hedgehogs. This isn’t a single family tragedy. It’s a common thing in Katie Price’s home.’
PETA director Elise Allen told The Sun: ‘Given her track record with animals, several of whom have died in her ‘care’, it would be irresponsible and reckless for Katie to be allowed to acquire another one.
‘And any breeder willing to sell to her is clearly putting profit over the animals’ welfare.’
‘Kate can do no right in some people’s eyes,’ her rep responded to the publication. ‘Kate has always been an avid pet lover and as we’ve mentioned before Kate would welcome a conversation with PETA organisational director, Elisa Allen, but Elisa has yet to get in touch.’
On Wednesday, Katie shared a picture at her stables with one of her horses, writing: ‘Having my horses back at home is the best thing ever back to my safe place my passion ❤️’
Alongside her current legal proceedings with ex-husband Kieran, the My Crazy Life star is also due back in court in July on a speeding charge, to which she will reportedly plead not guilty.
Katie was allegedly caught speeding in a BMW near her house in Horsham, West Sussex, just two weeks before she got into a major car crash, for which she was charged with drink-driving but avoided jail.Credit: Source
