Captain Tom Moore has been flooded with well wishes from his celebrity peers after he was admitted to hospital.

The 100-year-old World War Two veteran’s family released a statement on Sunday explaining that he is being treated for Covid-19 and pneumonia after experiencing problems with his breathing.

Reacting to the devastating news, Piers Morgan wrote in an Instagram post: ‘Tom Moore is in hospital with covid-19. Sending the great man all my prayers for a speedy recovery.’

He added on Twitter: ‘Come on, Captain Sir Tom – we’re all rooting for you.’

BBC Radio 2 host Zoe Ball tweeted: ‘Sending all the love and strength to Sir Captain Tom Moore x.’

Peter Andre simply left a string of prayer hand emoji, while former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattinson said: ‘Wishing him a speedy recovery.’

Britain’s Got Talent host Amanda Holden said: ‘Goodness me. Wishing you a speedy recovery and look forward to a cup of tea with you when it’s safe.’

Bear Grylls wrote: ‘Sending prayers…. come on Sir Tom… ???????.’

Singer Michael Ball wrote in a tweet: ‘Love and prayers for @captaintommoore and his lovely family as he battles this bastard of a virus. Stay strong Sir. We are all here for you.’

Captain Tom’s daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore confirmed that the war veteran, who raised almost £33 million for NHS charities during the first lockdown, was being treated at Bedford Hospital.

In a statement posted to the Captain Tom Moore Twitter account, Hannah wrote: ‘I wanted to update everybody that today (Sunday 31st January) my father was admitted to hospital.

‘Over the last few weeks he was being treated for pneumonia and last week tested positive for Covid-19. ‘He was at home with us until today when he needed additional help with his breathing. He is being treated in a ward, although he is not in ICU.’

Hannah continued: ‘The medical care he has received in the last few weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible.

‘We understand that everyone will be wishing him well. We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to. Hannah x’.

In addition to raising millions for the NHS, Captain Tom became a musical sensation after teaming up with Michael Ball for a cover of You’ll Never Walk Alone, which reached number one.
