Jonathan Van Ness’s new husband has successfully obtained a green card, allowing him permanent residence in the United States.
The Queer Eye star shared a photo of himself with his British partner, Mark Peacock, 35, standing outside US Citizen and Immigration Services to celebrate the news.
Jonathan, 34, commented: ‘Today as a queer person who wouldn’t have been able to marry the person they love just 6 years ago, our rights can’t be taken for granted!
‘So happy to have this process in our rearview ? Green Card YAS!’
Mark replied on his post: ‘Love my babe’.
Jonathan’s Queer Eye co-stars were quick to celebrate with the couple too.
‘Shantay you stay!!!!’, posted resident design guru Bobby Berk.
Fashion expert Tan France commented: ‘YAY! Such wonderful news that he now has a green card!!’
Jonathan and Mark tied the knot quietly last year, with Jonathan only revealing the relationship status change in a New Year’s Eve post reflecting on 2020.
He wrote: ‘Thank you universe for allowing me to be here & thanks to everyone who has supported me. 2020 was a year unlike any other.’
Among the list of his achievements, Jonathan wrote: ‘I got married to my best friend & have a loving partner to continue building my life with.’
In his own Instagram post, mirroring his hubby’s on New Year’s Eve, Mark wrote: ‘2020 brought on more changes than I’ve ever been a part of before.’
Announcing the marriage for himself, he described Jonathan as his ‘soulmate’ and ‘one true love’.
Jonathan later revealed on Instagram a few more details about how the couple met in London, falling fast for each other while Jonathan was on his comedy tour.
The Queer Eye fan-favourite also recently got his coronavirus vaccination as the scheme in the US expanded to include those with underlying health conditions.
Jonathan, who is HIV positive, took the opportunity to encourage people to be pro-active in booking their jabs.
Giving guidelines of what to do, he then warned: ‘Had I not been looking online everyday I wouldn’t have seen, so def get involved with your search.’
