Rachel Riley has welcomed the Labour Party’s decision to suspend Jeremy Corbyn following his comments about an anti-Semitism report that was released today.

It was announced today that Corbyn, former Labour leader, would no longer sit as an MP while an investigation into anti-Semitism within the Party continues.

Reacting to the move, Countdown host Rachel tweeted: ‘YOU are one antisemite too many. Leave us alone.’

The presenter, who is Jewish, added alongside a gif of a door slamming shut: ‘Jeremy Corbyn has been suspended. ABOUT TIME!’

Rachel has been vocal against the Labour Party’s alleged issues with anti-Semitism since last year.

In April 2019, she directly accused Corbyn of ‘fostering an environment that’s just really hostile to Jews’.

Later in the year, the 34-year-old then wore a t-shirt showing a picture of Corbyn being arrested at an anti-apartheid protest in 1984, with ‘Jeremy Corbyn is a racist endeavour’ Photoshopped onto his sign.

She stated that she will no longer consider voting Labour because they are ‘actively encouraging the abuse of people who are standing up to this’.

The TV star went on to say: ‘Well, I’ve been attacked by people on the left and the best way to not have me talk about anti-Semitism on the left is not to be anti-Semitic.’

A spokesperson for the Labour Party confirmed his suspension today and said: ‘In light of his comments made today and his failure to retract them subsequently, the Labour Party has suspended Jeremy Corbyn pending investigation.

‘He has also had the whip removed from the Parliamentary Labour Party.’

Earlier today an investigation into anti-Semitism in Labour found the Party had committed ‘unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination’.

The report, from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), said it had ‘uncovered serious failings’ in the way complaints were handled until at least 2018, during which time Corbyn was leader.

After the report was published, Corbyn insisted he was not ‘part of the problem’ over the party’s handling of anti-Semitism.

In a broadcast interview, he said: ‘The numbers of cases in the public perception had become overstated.

‘The existence of the problem, I fully acknowledge, which is why I took action to end the problem in the party by introducing a process to get anti-Semites out of the party.’

In response to Sir Keir Starmer’s comments that those who deny the seriousness of anti-Semitism are part of the problem, Corbyn stated: ‘No, I’m not part of the problem.’
