Rebel Wilson vowed to make 2020 her ‘year of health’ and sticking to her word, she recently revealed she’s just 3kg away from reaching her goal weight.

The Pitch Perfect star, 40, has been documenting her fitness journey on Instagram for fans, whether it be idyllic beach runs, boxing sessions, lifting weights or enjoying dreamy looking hikes as a way of working up a sweat.

Throwing herself all in to her challenge, Rebel also teamed up with celebrity trainer Jono Castano, who she first met over a year ago.

He’s now revealed the secret to the star’s success and insists banter-filled training sessions have been key to getting Rebel in shape.

Speaking to, Castano said: ‘I love a bit of banter, it makes the session more enjoyable when people bounce off one another.

‘You’ve got to enjoy coming to training. Most people don’t enjoy getting shouted at, that’s not what training is about.’

Being a comedian, Rebel is one gym-goer who will probably give just as good as she gets on the banter front, all while putting her body through its paces.

As predicted, Castano confirmed: ‘Rebel and I had a good laugh, so many laughs.’

So much so, that Castano and Rebel became great pals and he even bagged an invite to her 40th birthday.

He also shed light on a typical week when it comes to Rebel’s fitness regime and revealed that the Hollywood star would tackle five HIIT sessions a week, plus one day of weights and resistance training before giving herself a well-deserved rest day.

Rebel, meanwhile, recently opened up on why she chose to whip herself into shape this year and while she’s loving her new look, she’s vowed not to let herself get ‘too skinny’.

‘I never really focused on my health which was probably obvious,’ she admitted during an appearance on Drew Barrymore’s chat show.

‘I have a very sweet tooth, I love desserts. I’ve tried, like so many women out there, fads and diets and things before and I’m like I need to do a really holistic approach this time.’

Rebel revealed: ‘I think what I mainly suffered from was emotional eating and dealing with the stress of becoming famous internationally.  ‘There is a lot of stress that comes with it and I guess my way of dealing with it was just like eating donuts.’

She said that she’s now lost around 40lbs and plans to lose ‘a few more’, adding: ‘I love my curves and stuff, I don’t think I’ll ever go too skinny but I feel so much healthier.’
