Following the untimely loss of Paul Cattermole, the S Club website has been modified to remove the ‘7’ from the band’s name.
Just months after announcing plans for a massive UK tour, the band turned to social media today to convey the heartbreaking news of Cattermole’s passing.
The name of the band’s official website has now been altered to ‘S Club’ rather than ‘S Club 7’, presumably to mark Cattermole’s death on April 6 at the age of 46.
The website still sells products with the moniker ‘S Club 7’ as well as information about their impending reunion tour.
The webpage includes a message from the band in which they pay respect to their ‘brother.’
‘We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul,’ it begins, alongside a picture of the singer during his time with the band.
‘There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.
‘He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.’
It goes on to say that if fans want to express their condolences, they should email them to mail@sclub7.com, and the band would forward them to Cattermole’s family and friends.
Cattermole was one of the initial seven members of the band, along with Hannah Spearritt, Bradley McIntosh, Tina Barrett, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, and Rachel Stevens, who started the band in 1998.
A year before the band’s breakup in 2003, the late vocalist was the first to quit.
His family made a statement confirming his death, which read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.
‘Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
‘While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances.
‘Paul’s family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time.’
S Club Juniors, Rylan Clark, and Sheridan Smith were among those who paid tribute to Cattermole.
