Scream fans get excited, as it’s been confirmed that the franchise’s fifth movie has officially wrapped, ahead of its release date in January 2022.

It was revealed in September that production was already underway on Scream 5, with returning star Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott, confirming that ‘cameras were officially rolling’ on Twitter.

She is set to appear in the next instalment alongside Courteney Cox, who will be reprising her role as Gale Weathers, and David Arquette who stars as Dewey Riley.

It may have only been a few months since filming began, but The Scream Series has now revealed that the fifth movie has officially wrapped.

Taking to Twitter, the official Scream Series account posted: ‘Filming has officially wrapped on the new ‘SCREAM’ movie.’

The tweet also confirmed when the movie will hit the big screen, adding: ‘The film is expected to be released in theatres on January 14, 2022. #SCREAM5.’

That’s just over a year, people. Get excited.

Fans were quick to pick up on the news and seemed surprised at how quickly the film had been put together – especially as the coronavirus pandemic has pretty much wreaked havoc for the film and TV industry since earlier this year.

‘It only took them 3 months to film?’ quizzed one fan, while another replied: ‘I thought it was less… seems like they did this in less than 2 months but I could be wrong. All I know is I’m excited!’

‘I just hope it’s not rushed other than that very exciting to hear,’ posted one user, while another commented: ‘That was fast but can’t wait to see the trailer.’

Other eager fans were seen calling for the release date of Scream 5 to be brought forward, as they don’t want to have to wait until 2022, while others questioned why the movie has shunned a Halloween release date.

‘ive been looking forward to this since 2011 when scream 4 came out (sic),’ tweeted one Scream fan.

‘May I suggest an October release? We need some Halloween event viewing,’ said another, while one fan said: ‘Tell them to release it by Summer 2021.’

Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette are among the stars joining original stars Neve, Courteney and David in the movie, while Selena Gomez has also been rumoured to be making an appearance.

The original Scream movie first dropped in 1996, also starring Drew Barrymore and Riverdale’s Skeet Ulrich, with follow-up films later dropping in 1997, 2000 and 2011.
