ears, according to his close friend Sinitta.
The singing competition, on which Simon is a judge looking for the next big name in British music, has been off air since 2018.
He’s a man with a plan, Sinitta says, and we should expect to hear that familiar theme tune either this year or next.
Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray asked the So Macho singer what his plans are.
She teased: ‘He’s working on a revamped X Factor, I’m not sure if it’s gonna be this year or next year.’
Sinitta has of course been a part of the programme in the past, joining Simon at the judges houses stage of the competition (and famously appearing in front of the startled contestants wearing outlandish costumes that left little to the imagination).

Asked if she is on board to return for Simon’s revamped version, the pop star played it coy.
She replied: ‘That’s the big part of it isn’t it? I’ll start pestering him now and see what happens.’
Sinitta always seems to know exactly what the America’s Got Talent judge is thinking, previously telling Metro.co.uk that this upcoming makeover is nothing new.
‘He always liked to switch it up from year to year anyway.
‘Hopefully, he’s had all this time to give it a big refresh with lots of different ideas and using technology more.’
Simon was joined on the X Factor panel three years ago by Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda Field and singer Louis Tomlinson.
Mini-series The X Factor: Celebrity and The X Factor: The Band went out in 2019, and the main show was placed on hiatus in 2020.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
