Following her death at the age of 56, a decades-old video of Sinéad O’Connor masterfully belting out a cover song while sporting long hair rather than her characteristic buzz cut has emerged.
The Irish artist died on Wednesday, July 26th, after being discovered at her home in south east London, 18 months after the death of her’soulmate’ teenage son Shane.
Tributes to the great Nothing Compares 2 U singer have poured in from all around the world, with old interview footage, letters, and anecdotes about O’Connor resurfacing as people grieve her passing.
A recent viral video shows a young O’Connor singing on the UK TV show TFI Friday in 1998.
In it, she performs Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics alongside Natalia Inbruglia and Kylie Minogue.
O’Connor’s black hair is much longer, teased into a rock style with strands sweeping over to frame her face, as opposed to the shaved haircut she was renowned for.

As the three musicians sing along to the song, the mother-of-four also wears a body-hugging scarlet outfit, with O’Connor really glowing on stage with her great voice.
The footage has left fans speechless, with one remarking on Twitter that O’Connor “completely steals the show,” and another calling it “star power.”
‘This is pretty amazing,’ one said, while another labeled O’Connor ‘a beautiful human and performer.’
Others were so taken aback by O’Connor’s absence of her trademark cropped hair that they mistook her for Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries, who died in 2018.

In a new viral video, a young O’Connor can be seen performing on the UK TV show TFI Friday in 1998.
She sings Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics with Natalia Inbruglia and Kylie Minogue in it.
In contrast to the shaved hairstyle she was famous for, O’Connor’s black hair is considerably longer, teased into a rock style with strands reaching over to frame her face.
They mistook Connor for Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries, who died in 2018, since she didn’t have her customary short hair.
They were swiftly informed, however, that it was the Thank You For Hearing Me star.
Throughout her career, O’Connor liked short hair, either a buzzcut or a very short pixie style, as shown in the 1994 song Famine.
She originally shaved her head at the age of 20 to resist music executives who wanted her to look more feminine.
Years later, in an interview with Dr. Phil, she recounted her violent mother continually referring to her sister’s hair as “ugly,” and “when I got long hair, she would describe us as her gorgeous daughter and her ugly daughter.” That’s why I shaved my head. I didn’t want to be attractive.’
She also stated that the music industry affected her decision to maintain her androgynous appearance.
‘I was asked one day would I grow my hair long and wear short skirts because they wanted to sell me on my sexuality.
‘I didn’t want to be sold on that. If I was going to be successful, I wanted it to be because I was a good musician.’
