Squid Game star Jung Ho-yeon has been defended by fans as she was ‘bodyshamed’ online after sharing new photographs of herself.

Jung rocketed to fame almost overnight as Squid Game became Netflix’s most popular-ever original series, with the star now boasting almost 24 million Instagram followers.

The actor and model, 27, played Sae-byeok – aka player number 67 – in the violent and wildly popular series.

Following the show, which represented her first-ever professional acting gig, Jung has returned to modelling, regularly updating fans on her life and career on social media.

However, her latest Instagram update caused some concern among fans who thought she had lost a large amount of weight in a short time.

One photograph shows the model in a floor-length black dress, with a plunging neckline exposing her chest and shoulders.

A number of concerned fans commented underneath her post saying they were ‘worried’ about her.

Many commenters had good intentions, urging her to eat well and stay healthy, however, others wrote negative comments regarding her weight.

Rushing to her defence, one fan wrote: ‘Stop body shaming her and commenting on her body… Everybody is not cut from the same mold. Let her do her.’

Another urged Jung to ignore the comments, saying ‘you don’t need to do anything or change something in yourself to please society’.

In an interview with Korean outlet Star News, via AllKpop, Jung is reported as acknowledging her weight loss since moving to the United States in recent weeks, saying she simply ‘didn’t have any time’ to eat with her busy schedule.

She is reported to have said that she ‘lost way too much weight,’ and that ‘all the clothes that used to fit me when I first came [to America] are too loose now.’

Jung has been incredibly busy since becoming one of the world’s most famous actors after Squid Game essentially took over the world, and was recently appointed the global ambassador of Louis Vuitton.

Her history with the brand goes back to 2017 when she made her Paris Fashion Week debut on the runway in a corset leather dress.

She has since walked for the likes of Chanel Haute Couture, Burberry, Bottega Venetta, Fendi and plenty of others.

Her modelling career was kickstarted after she appeared on the 2013 series of Korea’s Next Top Model, where she finished as a runner up.

She previously told Teen Vogue she would love to be both a model and an actor if it was possible to balance both careers at the same time, adding that she is a ‘very flexible person’.
