Elon Musk has reacted to Netflix’s use of Teslas in its star-studded new film, Leave the World Behind.
Leave the World Behind, starring Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts, is an apocalyptic thriller, and one sequence in particular has everyone – even Elon – talking.
A squadron of autonomous Teslas attacks Ethan, Julia, and their children as they fly along an abandoned highway and collide.
Netflix shared a video of the scene on X, formerly Twitter, and Elon – who founded the electric car company – was quick to respond, tweeting: ‘Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!’
The billionaire’s post quickly started doing the internet rounds, with one person saying Netflix had ‘triggered’ Elon, writing on X: ‘Best thing about LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND is [it] triggered Elon.’
Leave the World Behind’s director, Sam Esmail, also picked up on Elon’s tweet, resharing it online and adding: ‘My movie LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND is now streaming on Netflix.’

The film Leave The World Behind portrays a family whose luxurious vacation on Long Island is cut short by a statewide blackout. As the threat progresses, the family must find out how to live while simultaneously dealing with two strangers who may or may not be a threat.
Julia famously made a cameo on the Friends TV series in 1996 and when asked if it was an intentional nod to her cameo, Julia said: ‘It wasn’t! But it was a great device that Sam [Esmail] wrote when he adapted the book, which is such a beautiful novel that Rumaan [Alam] wrote and when he added that element for the daughter, it’s just so great.
‘It just shows that we all have something in culture that just comforts us and makes us feel good. For me it’s America’s Funniest Home Videos, it’s different for different people and so to have that thing that at the end of the day, you can sit and it gives you comfort.
‘It’s beautiful.’
