Stefflon Don has spoken out to set the record straight on her past colourist tweets as well as rumours of her feuding with Nicki Minaj.
Old tweets from the Hurtin’ Me singer’s Twitter account resurfaced this week, including one from 2013 which featured her making an offensive comment about dark-skinned Black women.
The post read: ‘All you dark-skinned hating on light skinned b****es dont act like if god gave you a choice you wouldn’t change your colour lool [sic].’
Steff, real name Stephanie Allen, was forced to confront the issue again this week after one Twitter user reposted the tweet with the caption: ‘Is this you?’
Hitting out at the fresh criticism, Steff tweeted: ‘Every time I am on a blog people want to bring up my past mistakes. So let me post it here myself for everyone to see. Because you will not trick or scare me with something I my self [sic] acknowledged, owned and sincerely apologised for.’
Taking accountability for her words, the rapper continued: ‘Yes this was me almost 10 years ago. Ignorant and angry So I directed this tweet at a girl who shaded me for my colour.
‘I have grown since then and owned up to my mistakes and this is not a reflection of the Woman I am today! I have apologised and moved on I hope you can too.’
Steff, 29, then took the opportunity to clear the air regarding Nicki following years of beef rumours.
She stated: ‘I love nicki as an artist ! always said this and always will ! Nobody can ever change that Respectfully. And hate train..I ddnt even know she was getting hate cuz I wud have kept my opinion2 myself. But a problem W her never it was fans doing the most But just know I been a fan [sic].’
Speculation that the rappers were rivals emerged in 2018 after Steff reportedly criticised Nicki publicly for her handling of her feud with Cardi B.
Steff allegedly commented under a ShadeRoom post: ‘@Nickiminaj ur a big grown woman talking about beating someone’s head in???? Queen???? I’m disappointed in you so many people look up to you show us better.’
However, she later showed appreciation for the Grammy-nominated rapper, tweeting a while after: ‘Actually looking forward to hear some of nicki’s new tingzz [sic].’
In recent weeks, Steff has been busy promoting the remix of her latest single, Can’t Let You Go, featuring Tiwa Savage and Rema.
