Steps star Lee Latchford-Evans is a first-time father after his wife Kerry gave birth to a baby boy.
The 46-year-old announced that he and Kerry were proud parents to a baby boy, sharing a black and white snap of them holding their son’s hand.
Lee wrote: ‘Welcome to the world baby boy. Me & your mummy @kerrylucyinsta are so in love! You’re everything we could have wished for & more, Our perfect rainbow baby.’
The star’s fans and friends shared their congratulations, including Blue’s Antony Costa and actress Dani Harmer, while his Steps bandmate Ian ‘H’ Watkins commented: ‘Guncle H!’
Kerry, who tied the knot with Lee in 2012, celebrated reaching the nine month mark a week ago, and Lee praised her for how she dealt with the symptoms of pregnancy.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘24/7 nausea, for 9 months. Sleepless nights, Constant toilet trips (sometimes for no reason). Back ache, boob ache & not being able to find a comfortable position sitting or lying down. Swelling of joints & suffering with Pre-eclampsia (which can be fatal) meaning constant monitoring by ourselves & midwives & now to be safe bringing babies due date forward.
‘Why am I writing this? Because she hasn’t let all this get her down, she hasn’t cried & complained and has got on with everything including looking after others.
‘She is stronger than I could imagine. She knows she is blessed & is forever grateful for our rainbow baby (we both are). She is a trooper, an amazing woman & My Wife!’
Lee and Kerry’s journey to parenthood was made even more emotional, as their son was born three years after Kerry suffered a miscarriage at 10 weeks.
In the same four month period, Lee’s dad died, and Kerry’s mum passed away.
Lee shared that his Steps bandmates – H, Claire Richards, Faye Tozer and Lisa Scott-Lee – were over the moon when he told them that Kerry was expecting, telling OK!: ‘We had a meeting about our year ahead and we were going through what we’d be doing in August and September and so on, and I said, “I might be quite busy in August,” and I held up our first scan picture to the camera.
‘I said, “I want you to meet someone.” I filmed their reaction. They were fantastic. They cried and cheered!’
The 90s pop group, best known for singles like Tragedy and 5,6,7,8, released their sixth studio album, What The Future Holds, last November, and are set to release their latest single, Take Me For A Ride, tomorrow.
The song will be premiered on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 show and will feature on their new album, What The Future Holds Pt 2, which is out in September.
Speaking about the new album, Steps said: ‘We couldn’t have been more thrilled about the reaction to our What The Future Holds album last November, and the ongoing love from fans for all our single and video releases since. While lockdown has been really tough, we were fortunate enough to use the time to record a load of brand-new songs for you all! What originally started as a deluxe version of the album has now become a full new record.
‘We see What The Future Holds Pt. 2 as the perfect companion piece to the original album. The new record is classic Steps but also explores some brand-new sounds.’
They also teased that their new single is ‘darker than what we have done in the past and the lyrics tell a real story about someone being gaslighted in a relationship, a topic that’s finally getting the attention it deserves’.
