Following Steve Wright’s untimely death, his renowned Sunday Love Songs show on Radio 2 will continue without him.
The popular DJ died on Monday, February 12, at the age of 69, after a ‘incident’ at his Marylebone home.
On the first Sunday after his death, his friend and colleague Liza Tarbuck took over as host of the show, paying an emotional on-air homage to Wright in the process.
Nicki Chapman, host of the Early Breakfast programme, will take up Wright’s Sunday Love Songs slot beginning this Sunday and continuing until at least Easter.
She will endeavour to fill his shoes, at least temporarily, with the show continuing on the same format from 9-11 a.m., with fans ringing in requests for their favourite love tunes.
Nicki will then stand aside to let a new presenter to take over the programme permanently, with Davina McCall, Michael Ball, and Graham Norton among those being considered for the position, according to The Sun.
In a statement, Nicki said: ‘It will be a privilege to present Sunday Love Songs in the coming weeks, so please do tune in and keep me company as I share the listeners’ favourite songs alongside their heart-warming stories and memories of loved ones.’
Wright’s death devastated friends, fans and former colleagues, who struggled to keep it together when reading tributes on air.
