Tell me you’re filming with Sir Elton John, without telling me you’re filming with Sir Elton John

Lil Nas X has dropped some feathery and fantastic behind-the-scenes photos from a campaign with his collaborator Sir Elton John – and it’s a fabulous tribute to the singing legend.

Dressed head to toe in vibrant, multi-coloured feathers, accessorised with towering (and we mean it!) silver platform boots, glitzy round sunglasses and an embellished swimming-cap-come-bonnet, Lil Nas X was channelling Sir Elton from his autumn 1974 tour.

The Call Me By Your Name singer posted the pics on Twitter with accompanying chick and rainbow emojis, nicely summing up the outfit, the iconic status of which I’m Still Standing singer Sir Elton cemented with a later appearance on The Muppet Show in 1977.

The duo, who both have new albums on the horizon, were working on a new Uber Eats campaign ahead of the release of their single One of Me, which features on both Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero, out on September 17, and Sir Elton’s The Lockdown Sessions, a brand-new album of 16 collaborations out in October.

While linking up for the delivery app’s Tonight I’ll Be Eating campaign, Sir Elton described their partnership as ‘absolutely wonderful’ and continued: ‘From taking selfies to deciding to swap looks on set, working together has been a blast.’

For his part, Old Town Road hitmaker Lil Nas X got our ‘legend’ memo as he agreed and labelled Sir Elton ‘legendary’, and called trying on each other’s iconic looks ‘so much fun’ (the feathered one is now his lock screen, FYI).

In a joint interview with Bustle, the stars chatted about their upcoming single as well as lavishing praise on each other, as Sir Elton declared of Lil Nas X: ‘He uses his words wisely. And he’s very, very courageous. We need more people like that in the LGBTQ community. … I took to him like a bee to honey.’

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X called Sir Elton part of ‘the cultural zeitgeist’ and explained that he was looking for someone to ‘add that extra oomph and someone who’s probably been through similar situations’ for the single.

Of their track, Sir Elton also emphasised: ‘I would have played Mary Had a Little Lamb if he [Lil Nas X] was singing it.’

Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero is out on September 17. Sir Elton John’s new album, The Lockdown Sessions, is set for release on October 22.
