Claire Foy has spoken of the pressure of being a ’24-hours-a-day mum’.

The Crown actress, 37, shares daughter Ivy Rose with ex-husband Stephen Campbell Moore.

Speaking about motherhood in a candid new interview, the Queen Elizabeth II star addressed the challenges that mums face every day to be perfect.

‘There’s this pressure to be this cake-baking, fun, playing 24-hours-a-day mother, being some sort of vehicle for entertainment, love and food,’ she told Harper’s Bazaar.

‘I’m just prepared to apologise for who I am: “I am so sorry – but you’re lumped with me. This is the hand you’ve been dealt, let’s try to make the best of it.”’

We are living for her honesty.

Claire – who will receive the actress award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards – also criticised the idea of turning down screen roles as ‘someone’s wife’, as those people really exist and she wants to ‘give them a voice’.

‘It’s to underestimate the fact that women have, for centuries, been wives and mothers, and still are. That’s denying our entire history of what it means to be a woman,’ she continued. ‘I’m interested in what she’s doing, what she thinks, what she believes.

‘I don’t ever want to say I’m never playing a part that is supporting, or someone’s wife, because they exist, and if you can give them a voice, you should, instead of just making all these female characters that are basically just men but look like women – the superhero women who can fly, punch men in the face, that sort of stuff.’

Claire has had a successful time of late, starring as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.

She made headlines earlier this year when she took home the gong for award for guest drama actress at the Creative Arts Emmys – thanks to a flashback appearance which lasted just a few minutes.

To be fair, it was an incredible cameo.

Fresh from the award win, she will be back on our screens in new series A Very British Scandal, playing the Duchess of Argyll.

The show follows Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll, who suffered a scandalous fall from grace amid her divorce.

The synopsis reads: ‘Famed for her charisma, beauty, and style, Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, dominated the front pages as the divorce exposed accusations of forgery, theft, violence, drug-taking, bribery, and an explicit Polaroid picture that was to haunt her for the rest of her life.’

Something tells us there will be more awards in her future…

The December issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK is on sale from November 5.
