The Wanted star Tom Parker suffered further devastation on top of his ongoing cancer battle after his dog was forced to have his leg and tail amputated.
Buddy, who Tom shares with wife Kelsey, was run over by a car in September. His injuries were so severe that the vet revealed the only real option would be to amputate one of the pooch’s legs as well as tail.
It was a particularly challenging time for the couple as Tom had just started radiotherapy and chemotherapy for his brain tumour while Kelsey was 36 weeks pregnant with their second child Bodhi.
Revealing the horrific incident for the first time, Kelsey told her Instagram followers: ‘I got a phone call from my Older Brother Sammy who said “Kelsey I have some bad news! Buddy’s just been run over outside Mums. I had to call you as it’s not looking good. They have rushed him to the vets”.
‘Honestly my brother is the least dramatic person. From that call I thought we had lost him.’
She added: ‘We were so panicked and my Mum called to say “Kelsey he is stable but his leg is so badly damaged the only options is to amputate”, they had also found a kebab stick in his rectum that had missed every vital organ in his body- this dog truly was a walking miracle so I said whatever it takes we must do.’
Buddy underwent the surgery and Kelsey said he ‘completely bounced back’ the following day, even ‘shocking’ the vets with his speedy recovery.
The mum-of-two revealed that Buddy is currently living with her aunt at the moment as the family are unable to ‘give him the love and attention he needs’ while dealing with Tom’s health and looking after their two small children.
However, Kelsey stated: ‘We love him so much and he is doing amazing on his three legs, we are so proud of him.
‘I know what you’re thinking- and at the time we thought the same- could our luck get any worse. Honestly if we took our “life story” to Hollywood to pitch as a film they’d say. No way too far fetched.’
‘Buddy is an amazing dog he is our miracle dog- Just like Tom. Miracle buddy. Miracle Tom,’ she concluded.
Kelsey later shared a video of Buddy running around the garden on three legs a week after surgery, clearly adjusting to his new way of life well.
In October, Tom announced he had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and was undergoing treatment.
However, he shared a positive update last month after finding out that the tumour had ‘significantly reduced’.
Tom and Kelsey are parents to two children; Aurelia, one, and Bodhi, four months.
Tom and actress Kelsey have been together for more than a decade, getting engaged in 2016 before tying the knot at a ceremony in Surrey in 2018.
