The West Wing star Richard Schiff has tested positive for Covid-19.
Schiff, 65, confirmed that he and his wife Sheila Kelley had posted tested positive for coronavirus on the day of the US presidential election (November 3).
The actor, best known for playing Toby Ziegler on the political drama, tweeted: ‘On Election Day I tested positive for Covid-19. This has been the most bizarre week of our lives. @thesheilakelley is also positive.
‘This is tough. We are determined to find a way to health again. We root for everyone out there who are struggling with this thing. Love from here.’
A number of Schiff’s West Wing colleagues send their best wishes, with Marlee Matlin and Mary McCormack, who played Joey Lucas and Kate Harper on the show, tweeting: ‘Love you both.’
Kathleen York, who played his on-screen ex-wife Andy Wyatt, replied: ‘Sending love to you BOTH, Richard. Get your vitamin D…lots of it…..will help stave off effects.’
Piers Morgan tweeted: ‘Very sorry to hear this Legend, wishing you both a full & speedy recovery from all your friends across the pond.’
Kelley, 59, also shared the news on Instagram, writing: ‘Richard and I have some news. We have both tested positive for COVID-19.
‘We‘re quarantined in our home in Vancouver, recovering. This virus is a slippery sucker. One minute you feel almost fine and the next you can’t catch your breath. Symptoms change radically daily even hourly.
‘I am grateful for @s.factor.official embodiment practice as it tunes me deeply into my body. It is helping me cope from minute to minute. For those of you who do not have this virus stay healthy keep practicing physical distancing.
‘If you have Covid we’re in this together. Breath deeply. Breath slowly. Breath fully. We will get through this together [sic].’
Schiff and Kelley both star on The Good Doctor, which recently tackled the coronavirus pandemic in its two part season four premiere, which aired last month.
The show is currently in production in Vancouver, and Sony Pictures Television confirmed that filming has not been affected thus far.
Schiff’s White House communications director Toby was back on our screens last month as he reunited with his former West Wing castmates for a special reunion episode of the show to urge viewers to vote in the presidential election.
In the HBO Max episode, Schiff was joined by Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Rob Lowe and Dulé Hill to recreate the season three episode Hartsfield’s Landing.
Sterling K Brown played the role of Leo McGarry for the episode, as actor John Spencer died in 2005.
