TikTok beautician apologises to Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer after ‘toxic’ video suggesting cosmetic surgery

A beautician who suggested that Stranger Things actress Natalia Dyer needed cosmetic surgery to enhance her face has issued an apology.

Fans of the 27-year-old actress, who plays Nancy Wheeler in the Netflix series, were ‘disgusted’ after TikTok user Miranda Wilson posted a video pointing out what she perceived to be Natalia’s flaws in a video.

Miranda, who works as an aesthetic nurse practitioner, used a photo of Natalia with arrows pointing to areas on her face where she could get lip filler, botox and a brow lift.

The nurse said she would have worked on Natalia’s masseter muscles to ‘slim the face’ and even chin filler to ‘help fill out her chin and make her face more of a heart shape’.

At the end of the clip, Miranda included an edited photo of what Natalia’s face would look like after the cosmetic surgery.

The video received immense backlash with many branding it ‘toxic’ and ‘horrible’, prompting Miranda to remove the TikTok post.

She later returned with an apology video which she captioned: ‘Hoping to clear the air that I was not suggesting that Natalia NEEDED any of that work it was just an example. Of course Natalia is absolutely stunning the way she is…that’s why she’s so successful.

‘Her photo was simply an example. Im sorry if peole took that as being mean or rude, that was not my intent at all [sic].’

Miranda echoed the sentiments in the video, explaining: ‘I didn’t mean to offend anyone including Natalia. I was simply offering suggestions not what you have to do, just on what the possibilities are.

‘As an advanced injector that’s what we do.’

She then turned the tables around on herself and used her own photo to point out areas she could fix, including an eye lift and, of course, her masseters, which are facial muscles connected to the jawbone and cheekbone.

Among those heaping criticism on the aesthetician following the original video, one Twitter user said: ‘If TikTok is going to ban content, this is the kind of content it should ban. This stuff has to do serious mental damage to teens and tweens.’

Defending Natalia, one fan wrote supportively: ‘That plastic surgeon on tik tok clearly have no idea what real beauty is because natalia dyer is GORGEOUS.’

Another agreed: ‘Her face is perfect the way it is.’

One said: ‘This is so so horrible and so so toxic. What a horrid woman. Did she consider how Natalia Dyer would feel if she had the misfortune to watch this? Or did she just want her bile to go viral?’

YouTuber Tyler Oakley weighed in: ‘The cosmetic plastic surgery industry desperately needs you to hate how you look. this isn’t just the bullying of one individual (though omg this video absolutely is), it’s creating an entire culture of unrealistic beauty standards for profit. Yuck!’

Natalia recently returned to screens in season 4 volume 2 of the popular sci-fi horror series Stranger Things, which saw the sinister events come to a head in Hawkins and the Upside Down.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
