TikTok star Anthony Barajas is on life support, and his friend is dead, after a shooting during a screening of The Forever Purge.
The influencer, 19, who boasts nearly a million followers on the social media platform, attended a 9.30pm screening at The Crossings Shopping Center alongside his friend, 18-year-old Rylee Goodrich, 18, on Monday night.
Joseph Jimenez, 20, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder, after police undertook a search warrant, and allegedly found a firearm ‘related to the crime scene’.
According to Corona Police Department Barajas and Goodrich were found by theater workers, who hadn’t heard any gunshots, some time after the incident when they were cleaning the cinema.
Barajas was transported to hospital, however, Goodrich was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s said only six tickets were sold to the screening.
In a statement, police said: ‘Upon arrival, officers located a male and female both suffering from gunshot wounds. The 19-year-old male from Corona was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
‘The 18-year-old female from Corona succumbed to her injuries at the scene.’
Following Jimenez’s arrest, a statement read: ‘During the search of the residence, a firearm and additional evidence related to the crime scene were discovered. The firearm matched the caliber of the weapon used in the murder.’
The statement added ‘there is no known motive and it appears to be an unprovoked attack’.
‘Jimenez was booked on charges of murder, attempted murder, and robbery. He was booked at Riverside Presley Detention Center and is being held on a $2,000,000 (£1.4m) bail,’ it continued.
Theatre employee Kailyn Dillon, who was not working at the time of the shooting, told KCBS-TV that no one heard gunfire during the horror film’s screening.
They said: ‘During the actual movie time, no one apparently heard the gunshot.
‘I know that we do have security bag checks that we do on the daily and, unfortunately, I’m not sure if it just was missed or if it was in a holster on their belt.’
Tributes and well wishes have flooded Barajas’ social media accounts, where he’s built a solid following sharing light-hearted clips and updates on his family, which have amassed more than 34million likes on TikTok.
Barajas’ family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for his medical costs, which has already exceeded its $30,000 (£21k) goal, with more than $50k (£35k) raised so far.
A GoFundMe has also been set up by Goodrich’s family, with $45,000 (£32k) raised to cover funeral costs.Credit: Original article published here.
