Tory MP calls Laurence Fox a ‘nuclear powered p***k’ for buying mask exemption badge on Amazon

The MP for North Dorset has called Laurence Fox a ‘selfish loathsome tool’ for ordering a mask exemption badge off Amazon.

Fox, 42, has openly bragged about breaking lockdown rules over the past few months, claiming he has had large groups over for lunch and hugged friends, and urged followers to ‘take off your masks’ over Christmas.

His latest stunt is buying a lanyard to exempt himself from wearing a mask in public off Amazon.

Face masks are compulsory across the UK when on public transport and in shops, supermarkets and shopping centres, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Some groups are exempt from wearing a face mask in public places, including children under the age of 11, people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability, and those caused severe distress by wearing a face covering.

Despite the template being readily available to download from the government website, Fox chose to buy a lanyard containing the exemption from Amazon.

The Lewis star tweeted: ‘After a long period of consultation with myself, an extended review period and proper due diligence conducted with myself, I’ve received the badge that I ordered from Amazon. Thank you for being there for me. #anxiety.’

The stunt angered many, including Conservative MP Simon Hoare, who called Fox a ‘nuclear powered p***k’.

Hoare, who is the MP for North Dorset and chairman of the Northern Ireland Select Committee, quote-tweeted an article about Fox’s tweet, and wrote: ‘I hadn’t realised that being a first class, ocean going, chateau bottled, nuclear powered p***k was an exemption from wearing a mask.

‘What a selfish loathsome tool this man is.’

While some questioned whether the post was appropriate from an MP, the majority of the replies applauded Hoare for his sweary assessment of Fox’s stunt.

Others called out Fox directly under his original post, with Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite writing: ‘Just get “a******e” tattooed on your forehead. Easier.’

One response read: ‘I have severe lung fibrosis as a result of sarcoidosis. I’m extremely vulnerable to the virus. I have l limited lung function but wish everyone would wear a mask, like I do whenever I go out. What’s your excuse for putting me at risk?’

Another person wrote: ‘Love that you’re taking the p*** out of people with actual anxiety disorders (like me) and increasing the actual risk so we don’t want to go out – thus driving up our anxiety. What a contribution to society.

‘PS. I always wear a mask. It’s a bit of cloth. Grow up.’

‘My little boy has a sunflower lanyard because of his autism,’ one person commented. ‘It really helps us when in public places. You wearing this similar lanyard diminishes them in the eyes of others. Just thought you should know this. Btw – my son wears his mask as he wants to keep others safe. He’s 7.’

Along with social distancing and hand-washing, the wearing of masks has been proven to reduce the transmission of Covid-19.

Fox was previously best known for starring in shows like Lewis, but over the past year, he has reinvented himself as a talking head, critiquing lockdown, boycotting Sainsbury’s because they support Black History Month, and claiming it’s racist to call him a white privileged man.

Last year, he formed his own political party, Reclaim, which aims to ‘take back British values from politicians who have lost touch with the people’ and defend freedom of speech, celebrate British history and reform publicly funded institutions like the BBC.
