Towie star Danielle Armstrong recently returned from a trip to Dubai and has now explained why she chose to keep her holiday away from social media.
Following backlash influencers and reality stars have had for travelling amid the pandemic, Danielle explained that her trip – that was pre-booked before lockdown – was ultimately for work purposes, but she didn’t feel right showing it off online.
Taking to Instagram, Danielle, who welcomed her first child – daughter Orla – in May, said she wanted to be honest about why she hasn’t been on social media lately and understood that some people would be ‘judgemental’ over her heading overseas, following backlash influencers have faced recently.
She said via her story: ‘So, I did come off social media because, although it was lovely to be in the sun, and all of that, I’m not going to be posting that all on here. I understand and I appreciate it’s a sh*tty time for a lot of people, I respect that and understand that people are going to watch this and have their opinions… and be judgemental. But, I just wanted to be honest on here.
Danielle stressed that she and her fiancé Tom were tested for Covid-19 prior to their trip to Dubai and on their return to the UK, and they’ll now be isolating for 10 days in adherence with government guidelines.
‘We done everything that we were supposed to do, we had our negative tests before we entered Dubai. We’ve just come back and had our tests that were negative, we’re healthy and I feel very blessed and very grateful for the fact we’ve got our health,’ she told fans.
‘We are obviously going to be self-isolating for 10 days because that’s what you have to do.’
Explaining the purpose behind her trip, Danielle revealed: ‘I had booked to go away… it was something that I booked because, it was my goal to lose my baby weight and get in a bikini. I had a shoot booked, content to promote, I’ve got a nutrition business.
‘I remember when the government announced that you can only travel for business, I said to Tom, “Do I show that I’ve booked this and I’ve got the shoot ready prior to when this announcement was made?” No, that’s just so extra, but I genuinely wanted to.’
Pointing out that her trip, as well as being for work, was a holiday too, she added: ‘Of course, Tom was going to come with me and we were going to have some down time as well, I worked really hard in the six months to really focus on getting my bikini body, let’s say, and I wanted to use all that content to help support many other women and it was nice to just spend some quality time with Tom and Orla and that was it.’
Danielle said: ‘I wanted to keep it real with you all and I totally get people’s frustrations in the world. Everyone is entitled to do what they want to do, I’m not going to judge anyone for that, but I just chose to keep our trip very private.’
Her video comes after Love Island star Olivia Attwood was seen calling out her fellow influencers for claiming to be working while heading overseas amid the ongoing pandemic.
Venting her frustration online, Olivia said: ‘There’s a difference between being able to earn money from wherever you are and being on holiday for work. Whenever I go on holiday, I will post content which I can monetise, but I’m still on holiday.
‘I don’t go, “Oh me and [my boyfriend] Brad have had the most amazing week in Portugal, but don’t worry, I was flat out working,” you just sound so stupid.’
International travel has been prohibited unless given a legally permitted reason to do so.
England has been in national lockdown – its third lockdown since Covid-19 first hit in March last year – since early January in order to control rising cases of coronavirus across the country.
