Fans have been given a first look at Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf in moving new Netflix movie Pieces of a Woman.
The film sees Vanessa, 32, and Shia, 34, star as a couple on the verge of parenthood, who are struck by tragedy when they lose their baby during a home birth.
Ahead of the movie landing on Netflix in January, fans have been given a first look at the pair in action in a powerful new trailer, that sees Vanessa and Shia as Martha and Sean Carson, who are left devastated by their grief.
It begins with the pair excited to welcome their new baby, but things take a turn for the worst when Sean is seen rushing out of his home to stop an ambulance as Martha suffers from complications during labour.
As the couple try to deal with their loss, their relationship begins to fracture and Martha’s mother puts pressure on her to take their midwife to court over charges of criminal negligence.
The trailer, which manages to capture the movie’s tension and raw emotion in just two-and-a-half minutes, was shared by Netflix UK and Ireland on Twitter on Tuesday.
Alongside the clip, it read: ‘A home birth that ends in unimaginable tragedy and the deeply personal story of one woman’s loss. Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf star in Pieces of a Woman. Coming to Netflix, 7 January.’
The movie also stars Ellen Burstyn as Martha’s mother Elizabeth Weiss.
It’s directed by award-winning director Kornél Mundruczó and inspired by the stage play of the same that was first performed in 2018.
Martin Scorsese is an executive producer on the film.
Vanessa was last seen on the big screen in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, where she starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as Hattie Shaw.
Fans will also know her from seasons one and two of The Crown, where she played Princess Margaret alongside Claire Foy’s Queen Elizabeth and Matt Smith’s Prince Philip.
The roles were recast as the characters got older in seasons three and four, with Helena Bonham Carter appearing as Princess Margaret, Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth and Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip.
Season four of the series dropped on Netflix on Sunday and introduced Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, and Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor.
Pieces of a Woman lands on Netflix on January 7, 2021.
