Wendy Williams has hit back at Kourtney Kardashian after the reality star claimed that blue surgical masks could cause cancer.
Kourtney, 41, had shared the conspiracy theory with her 102million followers on Instagram, falsely claiming the surgical masks used to help slow the spread of coronavirus could cause cancer.
The unsubstantiated warning read: ‘Those Blue Masks Mandated at grocery stores & airplanes are made of PTFE, a carcinogen made from synthetic fluoride.
‘According to Cancer.Org it increases the risk of liver, testicle, pancreas, kidney & breast tumours + ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, preeclampsia and high cholesterol.
‘High exposure can cause influenza-like symptoms and haemorrhaging in the lungs, leading to suffocation.’
However, the American Cancer Society, which is cited in the post, have denounced the conspiracy theory.
Wendy also addressed Kourtney’s post, saying in her Hot Topics segment that ‘it has stupid written all over it.’
She added: ‘I believe that her followers wear masks. I just think that she might be trying to fool them by getting ready to put out a line of Kourtney masks…
‘I hope that’s not the plan… for like 20 bucks as opposed to like two dollars. I just think it’s irresponsible. That’s all, Kourtney.’
Wendy also addressed the American Cancer Society refuting the claims, adding: ‘I had no idea those people had time to follow Kourtney.’
Kourtney had been criticised for sharing the misinformation to her followers at a time when masks have been recommended to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
The Kardashian family had also come under fire for Kim Kardashian’s 40th birthday trip to a private island with 20 of her closest family and friends, despite her asking the guests to quarantine prior to the holiday.
Kendall Jenner was also slammed for hosting a joint Halloween and 25th birthday party over the weekend and blowing out the candles on her cake during the ongoing pandemic.
