Wesley Snipes celebrates Muslim travel ban lift after slamming Donald Trump’s ‘ungodly’ policy

Wesley Snipes has applauded President Joe Biden for lifting the Muslim travel ban in the US, years after condemning Donald Trump for the controversial policy.

Following his inauguration on Wednesday, one of President Biden’s first orders of business was to reverse Mr Trump’s most damaging policies, including the ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries travelling into the States.

At the time, Mr Trump claimed the measure was for security reasons and signed the bill not long after taking office in 2017.

However, President Biden has swiftly reversed the policy and invited cameras into the Oval office as he signed the order.

Celebrating the move, Wesley tweeted: ‘Goodbye #MuslimBan Peace and Love to my Muslim brothers and sisters.’

Wesley, 58, was raised a Christian but converted to Islam in 1978. He left the religion in 1988.

In a 1998 interview, the Blade actor explained: ‘Islam made me more conscious of what African people have accomplished, of my self-worth, and gave me some self-dignity.’

When Mr Trump signed the so-called Muslim travel ban, Wesley slammed the then-president on social media.

The Blade actor shared footage of an Iranian-American man crying about the move and tweeted: ‘Heartbreaking to watch. This is not American. No ban!’

After some of his Twitter followers supported Mr Trump’s ban, Wesley hit back and wrote: ‘I have no problem blocking the heartless. Show yourselves & I will show you the Wesley Wall real quick!

‘Stop justifying these actions with the words “it’s temporary”. Banning someone from their home & family is ungodly even if for one day!

‘Place yourself in someone’s shoes before you claim the walk isn’t so bad.’

In 2010, Wesley opened up about his relationship with religion and explained according to MSN: ‘I like to read about different religions – Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism.

‘It was actually my martial arts training that got me into it – after all it’s quite spiritual. And at the theatre they always tell you what you’re not. That actually made me wonder who I actually am.’
