Dolly Parton is set to bring that festive feeling to us all (yes, even in 2020) as she’s just released her very own Christmas movie with Netflix titled Christmas on the Square.

The holidays-inspired film dropped on the streaming platform on Sunday and it’s everything you could possibly need for a festive film marathon in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Jolene singer, 74, plays a Christmas angel sent to save a small town from eviction by taking on a modern-day Scrooge property developer and showing her the error of her ways.

As well as starring in the movie, Dolly also treats fans to new original music included in the soundtrack – 14 new songs to be exact – inspired by her country roots.

The 10-time Grammy Award winner is an icon when it comes to country music and that’s no surprise given she was born and bred in Tennessee.

Dolly grew up and still lives in Tennessee in the US. She was born in 1946 in a small cabin on the Little Pigeon River in Pittman Centre, before moving to a farm near Locust Ridge.

The farm inspired her song My Tennessee Mountain Home released in 1973 and in the late 1980s, Dolly actually re-purchased her childhood home and rehabilitated it.

After graduating from high-school, Dolly then moved to Nashville, Tennessee – the heart of country music – to pursue a career as a singer.

The star now lives just outside of Nashville in Brentwood with her husband Carl Dean, who she married in 1966 when she was 18, in their mansion that sits on over 3,300 square feet. It’s reported the couple previously bought their home for $400,000 (£300k) in 1999.

It not only includes a tennis court, swimming pool and a chapel, but also farmland and multiple barns too, with Dolly previously revealing to The Mirror: ‘We have a farm and [Carl is] more than happy keeping the fields mowed, the barns painted and working away on his farm equipment.’

Does Dolly Parton have children?

No, Dolly and her husband Carl have never had children together. They had helped to raise Dolly’s siblings in Nashville – she is one of 12 children in her family and the fourth eldest.

Opening up on their decision not to have kids, Dolly previously told Oprah Winfrey – a decision she says was crucial to her becoming a huge and successful country music star.

‘Since I had no kids, and my husband was pretty independent, I had freedom,’ she said. ‘So I think a big part of my whole success is the fact that I was free to work.

Dolly continued: ‘I didn’t have children because I believed that God didn’t mean for me to have kids… if I hadn’t had the freedom to work, I wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done. I wouldn’t be in a position to do all of the things I’m doing now.’

The 9 to 5 hit-maker is godmother to Miley Cyrus.

Dolly is close friends with Miley’s country music star dad Billy Ray Cyrus. They had toured together when Billy Ray released his single Achey Breaky Heart.

Miley was born that year and Billy Ray asked Dolly to be his daughter’s godmother, which she said yes to, hoping to be more like a ‘fairy godmother’ to Miley instead.

‘One thing I always say about Dolly is — they say don’t meet your heroes, but that doesn’t apply to her. When you meet her, she’s as incredible as you would’ve ever dreamed. She’s even better,’ Miley revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Dolly has said of Miley in the past: ‘ love Miley because I think she’s such a pro. She does know who she is, and she’s such a talent, too.’

She told Billboard in 2019: ‘A lot of people don’t realise just how much talent she really does have. There’s nothing Miley can’t do, and nothing I wouldn’t do for Miley.’
