Will Luke Wilson return as Emmett in Legally Blonde 3?

Legally Blonde just wouldn’t be the same without Luke Wilson’s character Emmett popping up, but is he going to be in the rumoured third movie?

Fans were first introduced to Luke’s character Emmet in the original Legally Blonde film that dropped in in 2001.

We were all rooting from him to steal the heart of Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon) and for her to fall for her fellow attorney instead of pining after her ex-boyfriend Warner.

Luckily true love prevails and by the time the second Legally Blonde movie, Red, White and Blonde, came about two years later in 2003, Elle and Emmett were happily wed.

So, naturally, fans are hoping he’ll be back for when Legally Blonde 3 finally hits the big screen and, well, if Luke has his way, he definitely will be.

Asked whether he’s up for reprising his role as Elle’s dreamy lawyer beau, Luke told Us Weekly: ‘Of course I’d do it.’

He, however, is just as in the dark as we are when it comes to the third film and while Luke revealed that it’s currently being written, he knows little else about it.

‘As for the Legally Blonde that we’re hearing about now, I don’t know anything than the usual man on the street,’ he insisted.

‘And that’s really the truth. I’ve heard they’re writing it and trying to put it together, but they’re keeping it pretty firmly under wraps.’

Luke added that he ‘loved’ working alongside Reese and that he still gets girls of all ages coming up to him and asking him questions about the legendary Delta Nu sorority sister Elle Woods.

‘It’s one thing to make a movie people like, it’s another to make a movie that does well, but to have one that gets legs because of how people feel about it, that is a great feeling,’ the actor, who the brother of Wedding Crashers star Owen Wilson, gushed.

Legally Blonde 3 has already been given a release date and the movie will hit cinemas in May 2022.

Mindy Kaling is behind the script and she admits she was ‘nervous’ to revisit the iconic character, but teased what they’ve come up with is something ‘really fun’ for fans.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Mindy revealed: ‘It’s been over 20 years since [Reese] did the first movie and she asked me, “You know, I’d really love to revisit this character.”

‘I was nervous because the movie is so iconic but then I thought it would be really fun to see that character in her 40s. What is Elle Woods dealing with as a 41-year-old woman?’
