My Celebrity Life

Wines and Celebrities

Celebrities have always associated themselves with wine. From the days of Stalin offering his favorite semi-sweet Georgian, Khvanchkara, red wine to Churchill and Roosevelt at the end of World War Two.

Celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon of associating themselves with wine. Gordon Ramsey has his label, Rap Star, Jay-Z had his Ace of Spades Champagne, and even Golfer Ernie Els had his prestigious wine farm in South Africa.

Dame Helen Mirren

The Acadamy Award-winning actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II, has a favorite red wine from Puglia, Italy.

Negroamora is a deep red wine produced in the red soils of Contrada Monte La Conca. Straddled by the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas, the wine benefits from the cooling winds, resulting in a rich fruitiness and satisfying tannins.

Our San Marzano Negroamaro F is a classic example of this full-bodied red wine. Some may even call it luscious. Smooth with ripe tannins, it makes a great pairing with tomato-based pasta sauces and a range of red meat dishes.

Michael Sheen

He is also a great fan of Italian wine. His preference, however, is from the Piedmont region of Italy. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, the Mauro Molino Barola wine enjoys pole position for the Welsh actor.

The family-run vineyard has successfully produced a Barolo wine that can be appreciated while still relatively young. The wine benefits from being decanted an hour or two before drinking to allow full flavor development. It can also be successfully matured for more than ten years.

This reasonably priced wine will delight your tastebuds with rich red fruits like cherries and delicate rose petals. The Tannins provide a secure balance, and hosting the wine in French oak for eighteen months promotes a delightful smokey oak complexity.

Boris Johnson

The UK Prime Minister has a solid attachment to the superb Tignanello wine produced by the Antinori Family. You will know that this is a serious wine when the notes indicate that it can lie patiently in the cellar for twenty years.

The wine is a blend based on eighty-five percent Sangiovese and the addition of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The fourteen percent alcohol content ensures a long life for the wine.

The wine was introduced in the nineteen seventies and shunned the convention of utilizing only indigenous Italian wines. In particular, it introduced Cabernet to the blend instead of the traditional addition of white wine.

It broke many of the other norms of the Italian wine industry by being matured in Barriques. The smaller barrels increased the influence of the oak on the wine and raised its quality to such an extent that it has become an iconic and highly prized wine worldwide.

Amy Smart

The Star of movies like The Butterfly Effect, and Just Friends, has Pinot Noir as her firm favorite wine choice.

The Duckhorn Pinot Noir Goldeneye is a classic example of total commitment to top-quality wines from the Goldeneye winery. The winery has remained in the world’s top hundred wineries for over seven years.

The 2017 vintage was an excellent year with the combination of early spring rains and dry harvesting weather, resulting in a smooth wine with concentrated flavor.

The sixteen months of barrel maturation gives the wine a subtle earthiness with hints of sage, leather, and delicate spice.

Sarah Jessica Parker

On a much lighter note, Sarah Jessica Parker collaborated with Invivo Wines, resulting in a delightful Prosecco. The Invivo X Unity Prosecco is a bubbly sunshine wine made in the Charmat way. The flavor is crisp and ideal for lunchtime parties.

The New Zealand winery was one of the first to be crowd funded. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, the English Talk Show host Graham Norton has also associated himself with the Invivo label.

The wine is meant for easy drinking party times and was chosen as the official wine for the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Another easy-drinking wine is the Rose from the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie venture. The Chateau Miraval Rose is a delightfully easy-drinking Rose with a delicate, almost coppery hue. This is a casual wine to be enjoyed on its’ own or as a great partner to pan-fried fish on even lightly spiced chicken.

There is a magnetic attraction between celebrities and excellent wines. Stars want to be associated with iconic wines, and great wines want to be connected to Celebrities. So both parties gain from the relationship.

So choose the wine of your celebrity and say ‘Cheers’ to your favorite Star.
