The Ultimate Outdoor Summer Workout Shoe Just Landed

Gyms have reopened but with summer finally here, it’s far more tempting to shake off those lockdown cobwebs and take our workouts outside.

Overseas travel may be largely off the cards but that doesn’t mean we can’t embark on active outdoor adventures, be it travelling across the country for a light weekend hike, cycling to a new part of the city or simply taking our bootcamp workout to our local park before grabbing brunch with friends (inside, at last!). Even after all those lockdown walks, it’s hard to get bored of nature.

A summer of active plans calls for a new, levelled up workout shoe. Reebok has given its renowned fitness shoe, the Nano X1, an outdoor upgrade and it’s the coolest must-have trainer to invest in right now. With tech and design updates geared specifically for the outdoors, Reebok’s Nano X1 Adventure is durable and versatile enough for pavement HIIT, light hikes in nature, weekend al fresco adventures and much more. It’s the ultimate all-rounder to be seen in this season.

A stellar pair of trainers requires A-grade workout outfits to match – and besides, who knows who we might bump into while out and about? Here’s how to dress the Nano X1 Adventure to ensure you sweat in style this summer.

Park BootcampEven after an early morning wake-up call, few things compare to the endorphin rush that follows a bootcamp-style workout.

High-impact exercises, muddy terrain and (most likely) adverse weather conditions require well designed, supportive clothes. Droopy leggings and barely there sports bras are the last thing you need when your PT’s screaming at you to keep up the pace.

Instead, a pair of Reebok’s high-waisted performance shorts, a racerback sports bra and a headband to keep those flyaways under control will make endless burpees and mountain climbers seem a whole lot more doable. A dark outfit will disguise any pesky grass stains as well.

The Nano X1 Adventure’s rubber lug outsole provides maximum traction against outdoor environments (making those sprints a whole lot easier), while the ripstop upper offers added protection against the elements.

Crucially, thanks to the trainers’ modern colourways and bungee-like laces (made of 100% recycled material), this look is also stylish enough that you won’t feel out of place ordering a fancy coffee or brunch afterwards – which is probably what enticed you out of bed in the first

Light Hikes In NatureIf you’re getting out of the city and reconnecting with nature this summer, you’ll need to be prepared for all weather and conditions; most importantly, you’ll need to be comfortable. Don’t be that person at the back complaining about their sunburn, thigh chafing, blisters or all of the above.

For a light hike outdoors, opt for a thin-strap sports bra, a light, sweat-wicking tank top, two-in-one shorts to provide coverage and prevent chafing (crucial), and a sturdy bottle that keeps your water cool for hours as you climb uphill.

With its rubber outsole for maximum traction, breathable and stretchy upper, antimicrobial lining and enhanced heel stability, the Reebok Nano X1 Adventure is versatile enough to handle outdoor terrain and take on any obstacle that gets in your way.

Oh, and you’ll want to pack hike-proof snacks (it’s called trail mix for a reason) and a cool bag of your favourite drinks to keep you well fuelled along the way.

Sidewalk Workout On busy days when convenience is key, high intensity interval training (HIIT) on the nearest pavement is the answer, whatever the weather. Armed with just a mat, a fitness app and an interval timer, you’ll walk away dripping with sweat and gasping for air (multiple rounds of high knees, press-ups and planks will do that to you).

With that in mind, layering is key. Start by warming up in a pair of comfy joggers and an oversized hoodie, then as you start to sweat, take them off to reveal the legging shorts and sweat-wicking tank top that you had the foresight to put on underneath.

The Reebok Nano X1 Adventure’s Lace Lock Harness ensures a snug fit, while the enhanced heel stability means ankle injury is hopefully one less thing to worry about as you jump around.

If you’re heading further afield than your street, pack a waist bag with your keys, phone and mask (for your post-workout smoothie stop). Et voilà: a perfect outfit for HIIT-ing the ground running.

Cycle ChicThanks to the empty roads and public transport restrictions, many of us found freedom through cycling during lockdown. Don’t let the world reopening stop you from hopping on two wheels to commute to work, see friends on the other side of town or explore a new neighbourhood. Just please, wear a helmet.

Wherever you’re heading, avoid loose trousers. A pair of cycling shorts is a must (including under a skirt or dress for maximum coverage) and sweat-wicking fabrics are essential, whatever the weather. A soft, V-neck sports bra will ensure you feel supported while hunched over for long periods and a breathable, long-sleeve top will keep you streamlined and sunburn-safe.

Well-fitting trainers are a must, especially when cycling uphill, which is where the Reebok Nano X1 Adventure comes in. The rubber lug outsole provides maximum traction and prevents awkward foot slippages, allowing you to focus on the road ahead.

A bag that attaches securely to your back or around your waist is the most failsafe option – unless you’re lucky enough to have a basket big enough for picnic supplies. In which case, cram it with as much bread, cheese and wine as you can.
