What do the circles, triangles, and squares on Zara labels mean?

Most of us own at least one Zara item in our wardrobes – whether it’s the cult polka dot dress from 2019 or a basic T-shirt.

But have you ever looked closely at the labels on your garments?

Some Zara labels feature small shapes on them – circles, triangles, and squares to be specific.

Naturally, it’s got many thinking about whether the symbols are some kind of code – and people on TikTok have their own theories.

One user called zar.a0 commented: ‘I saw a thing on TikTok about Zara where if the label has a circle on it runs large, triangle runs small and square if it’s true to size.’

This ‘revelation’ came as a shock to fellow user lucyc.jpeg who, in one video, can be seen going through her wardrobe and finding these symbols all over her items.

At first she sees a light square on a new pair of trousers that she’s just purchased. She then delves deeper into her clothes collection and finds a triangle on a white dress and a square on a crop top label.

However, before we get too carried away, it’s worth pointing out that this isn’t actually what the symbols mean.

It seems they serve a very different – but incredibly helpful – purpose.

The team at Zara tell us: ‘These symbols reference specific sections within the store to support colleagues in knowing where to place items.

‘Regarding the collections – circle: woman, square: basic and triangle: TRF.’

Essentially, they are a blueprint for Zara employees to follow – so they know which pieces go where, when they are hanging them out in the shops.

Something that is no doubt very useful, considering the fast turnaround of Zara clothes in stores.

So now you know the fact from the fiction.
