Four Sensible Steps To Take Control Of Your Lifestyle Back This Spring

We all know how hard it can be to stay on top of things during the winter. To be fair to all of us, we have been through an exceptionally difficult few months, not to mention last couple of years. If you are feeling overwhelmed, then remember that things have been overwhelming. We have been through something incredibly difficult, and we have all been trying to get through the week by any means necessary. But things are finally looking brighter out there, and we are not just talking about the weather. As we look ahead to the spring and the year ahead, it finally feels like we have some reasons to be cheerful.

What this means is that if you have been waiting for the right time to take back the steering wheel of your life, that time is now. Here are a few tips to help you get to grips with what you need to get started for the months ahead.

Embrace A Routine

We know, it never seems particularly exciting to announce that you are going to schedule your days more rigorously. But if you are serious about taking control of your lifestyle back then you are going to need to start setting some things in stone. Now, no one is telling you to get rid of all flexibility and freedom of choice. However, you need to remember that setting your own schedule means exactly that. You will be the one making decisions about what you do and when, not someone else.

Let’s start at the beginning of the day. If you are still working from home, as it looks like many of us will be for the foreseeable future, then you need to make sure that you are giving yourself a good chunk time between getting out of bed and signing in for the day. If you are heading back into the office, then it is even more important to make sure that you are giving yourself time so that you don’t have to rush every day. You also need to make sure that you are taking your lunch hour every day, and that you are signing in and out of work on time (more on that in a moment). It is also so important to make sure that you are getting enough sleep every day. If you are not getting your seven to nine hours on a regular basis, then you may need to make some changes.

Rethink Your Diet

Over the last couple of years, it seems fair to say that a lot of us have been indulging in more comfort foods and drinks than we would normally. When things are difficult, it is so easy to fall back into old habits when it comes to our diet. We all saw the stories about the massive rise in takeaway ordering, but now it’s time to take a good hard look at your meal plan. To start with, think about how you can cut down on those sneaky last minute treat meals by deciding what you are going to be eating at the start of the week.

Write a shopping list before you go to the shop and make sure that you stick to it. Think about what changes you can make to your diet. For example, a lot of people out there have been cutting meat out of their diet as we all try and do our bit for the environment. But you should also think about cutting down on, or cutting out, red meat and processed meats for your health.

If you are looking to lose weight in 2022, then you may want to think about meal replacement options. Low calorie diet shakes can help you to get the essential nutrients you need while you cut those bad habits out of your days. Shake That Weight has an amazing range of different meal replacement products. They have a wide range of blogs and articles on their website to help you learn more about the changes you are making as well as planning the best way to keep to your diet.

Find Your Work Life Balance

One of the most talked about issues over the last couple of years (apart from the obvious) has been burnout and mental health. We have all had so much on our plates in our personal lives and trying to do the same amount of work to the same high standard has meant that a lot of people ended up pushing themselves too far. Now, it is very important to note that much of the responsibility for helping you to avoid burnout lies with your employers. If you feel like you are struggling, then you need to make sure that you tell your manager or HR manager.

However, there are several things that you should be doing to bolster that wall between your personal and professional lives, particularly if you are working from home. Make sure that you are logging on and logging off at the set time. If you need to use flexible hours, work the hours that you are supposed to. If you are working remotely, think about where you have your home office set up. For example, working in a space that you spend a lot of your down time in, such as the living room or the bedroom, can really make it feel like your work and home spaces are one and the same. Try to make sure that you are working in a room that you can close the door on at the end of the day. If this is not an option, then turn your computer off when you’re finished (do not simply put it on standby), and then do not check your work emails or messages after you have done so. It is also so important that you keep your weekends for you and your family.

Get To Grips With Your Budget

The start of the year is always tough when it comes to our finances. No matter how much we save for the holiday season, we always seem to go over our budget. Then there are the higher energy costs (which are only going to get higher), and rising food prices mean that we are all having to rethink how much we are spending and what we are spending it on. If it is starting to feel like you are losing control of your budget, take a step back and sit down with your accounts.

Make a list of all your recurring expenses first and remind yourself of when those payments go out of your account. Then, break down every penny you have spent over the last few months. You will soon start to have a much clearer idea of where your money is going and what savings you can make. For example, many of us signed up to a whole load of extra movie and TV streaming services over the last couple of years, but have you used them since we started being able to see people again? Have you used that food box delivery, or does it sit at the back of the fridge? Making a meal plan will help with your budget as well as with your diet and using leftovers will too.
