Your wedding is said to be the most important day of your life. Unless your lover thinks you’re strange.
That was the sad case for one woman, whose husband claimed she was unrecognisable on their wedding day.
The groom posted on Reddit asking if he was the a**hole for not being able to recognise his new wife with a lot of makeup on.
Explaining the situation, he said: ‘Yesterday was our wedding and the moment I saw her there, I was shocked she used a huge amount of makeup that I barely recognised her without hearing her voice.
‘She saw my facial expression that I was acting a little out of the ordinary and she asked me what’s wrong? I told her that it’s nothing but she looked a little weird with all that makeup in her face.’
The groom did try to defend himself adding: ‘I love [my wife] to death and she means the world to me, also she is a person who is comfortable with her skin and doesn’t use a lot of makeup which I really adore about her and we always tell the truth to each other no matter what.’
In this situation, though, honesty was not the best strategy.
While the bride laughed it off at first, he subsequently stated that she was furious and gave him the cold shoulder on a day that should’ve ended better.
People flocked to the subreddit, declaring that he was clearly in the wrong.
One person wrote: ‘On the day she’s meant to feel beautiful and stunning and desirable to her new husband, you pulled a funny face and told her she looked weird’.
Another wrote: ‘I find it hard to believe you barely recognised your wife. She was the one in the white wedding dress.’
Others were more measured and advised the newlywed it could be down to nerves.
‘Your job was to tell her she looked beautiful, no matter what, and say “I do”,’ said the commenter.
‘Congratulations just the same. Weddings and funerals are always hard to navigate because emotions are high and people are human.
‘I recommend just telling her how lovely she was yesterday, and if she says anything about you having said she looked weird, you tell her it was shock from how beautiful she was and nerves from the big day and that you went stupid for a second, and then you tell her she was gorgeous and give her a kiss.
And after comments poured in, the husband seemed to realise the error of his ways.
He wrote: ‘Thank you everyone, I realised how I totally f****d up and how my comment was misinterpreted, I will apologise to her and try to fix things.’
