Every couple wants their wedding to have unique features that symbolise them, but when planning a wedding it’s always fun to look at what’s trending to ensure the big day feels fresh and contemporary. Here are four of our favourite new trends for 2024 weddings.
Bridal capes
Capes are the new trains when it comes to bridal collections. Capes add elegance and drama to help the bride make an entrance, and they’re a great way to dress up a simple, sophisticated dress. Plus, they’re easy to remove when the bride is ready to hit the dance floor.
Although capes were once considered a winter wedding garment designed to keep the bride warm, lightweight lace and tulle capes can create an ethereal look in spring and summer. Hooded capes can also serve as a chic alternative to a veil, and come in many beautiful designs.
Celebrant-led ceremonies
2023 saw a 49% increase in internet searches for ‘celebrant weddings’, which is a strong hint that celebrant-led ceremonies are set to be popular in 2024. Celebrants can deliver significantly more personalised ceremonies than registrars, which is appealing to couples who want a truly bespoke experience.
Symbolic features like handfasting and unity candle lighting can be incorporated into celebrant-led ceremonies. It’s worth noting that celebrants cannot legally marry people in the UK, so the official process of completing legalities must take place at a registry office before the wedding day, but many couples see this as a small sacrifice for having a tailor-made ceremony in front of their friends and family.
Blue wedding dresses
Colourful wedding gowns are on the rise in 2024, but blue is the standout hue. Blue gowns suit spring weddings particularly well, with pastel shades looking set to be most popular. If an all-blue gown isn’t for you, consider a sheer blue veil or cape to wear over the top of your white dress to incorporate a gentle wash of colour.
You should be shopping for your wedding dress 9-12 months before the big day, so if you’ve already got a white gown ordered for a 2024 wedding, adding blue accessories could be a simple way to incorporate this trend.
Informal dining
In the interest of individuality, couples are shunning the traditional three-course wedding breakfast in favour of significantly less formal dining choices. Couples want to eat their favourite food on their big day, and they want it served in such a way that allows guests to let go of inauthentic airs and graces.
Burger vans, pop-up pizzerias and fried chicken food trucks are all great examples of laid-back wedding feasts we can expect to see more of in 2024. Family-style dining is also a great choice as it encourages guests to get socialising as they pass dishes around the table to pile their plates high.
