It might be difficult to discover a bargain in the world of real estate, but a recent US listing has shown that hidden treasures can exist for those prepared to take a chance.
A house for sale in Pontiac, Michigan, has been called the “world’s cheapest home,” with an asking price of $1 (or around 78p).
With weeds and overgrown foliage around the property, it’s evident that future owners will have a challenge on their hands, but it might be the ideal doer-upper home for many.
The two-bedroom, 742 square-foot property has one bathroom but missing walls and an overall run-down appearance.
According to its pricing history, the two-bedroom property was previously sold in February of last year for $4,092 (£3,212).
The listing also mentions some strange features, such as the avant-garde ‘floor hole’ art work conveniently positioned next to the furnace, as well as the overgrown garden shrubbery, which is home to ‘a selection of local critters.’
Those who are willing to invest in the property will reap the benefits.
‘If you’re a visionary, a risk-taker, or simply someone who thrives on life’s little curveballs, this home is calling your name,’ says listing agent Chris Hubel, in the advert on Zillow.
‘Buckle up for a journey filled with twists, turns, and a whole lot of character. Don’t just buy a house, buy an experience.’
He adds that prospective buyers will experience a ‘thrilling rollercoaster of emotions as you discover every nook and cranny that’s begging for your creative touch.’
However, it’s worth noting that just because the house is on the market for less than a pound doesn’t mean that others won’t bid higher on it.
In reality, Chris claims to have received around 200 offers for the property, with the top bidder giving more than $30,000 (about £23,000).
