All The Jolly Singers In The Cast Of Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square

If given the chance, I’m willing to be every single person on the planet would jump at the chance to hang out with actual saint Dolly Parton, but only a special few ever get to work with the singer-actress-humanitarian with the biggest heart. Those lucky few sometimes get to sing and dance alongside Dolly, and that’s the case with her new Netflix Christmas special, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square. For this special, she’s gathered a group of accomplished singers and dancers (and renowned choreographer Debbie Allen) to spread as much festive cheer as possible — as is the Dolly way.

Dolly herself stars in the special as herself a sparkling guardian angel hoping to convince the town Scrooge not to evict all the town residents for her own gain. Basically, if you’ve ever wished for a Dolly Parton take on A Christmas Carol, this is it.

The cast is made up of some incredibly accomplished performers from the world of song and dance, many who you will remember and a few you might now. Wondering who’s who in the cast of Dolly Parton’s Christmas in the Square? Here’s what you need to know about all the major players.

Dolly Parton plays The Angel

It’s safe to assume you already know who Dolly Parton is, but honestly any excuse is a good excuse to share more Dolly. While trying to save the world, Parton also released a brand new Christmas album this year — her first in 30 years! The debut single is this duet with Michael Bublé, so obviously it should be on repeat for the next month.

Christine Baranski plays Regina Fuller

Baranski has been a familiar face across film, television, and the stage for the last few decades, and it might be easier to list of things she hasn’t been a part of. More recently, she’s been a part of the expanded worlds of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon and of course, the Mamma Mia! movies playing the irresistible Tanya, including this performance of “Does Your Mother Know.” Someone should make a solely Tanya spinoff, just saying.

Jenifer Lewis plays Margeline, the town hairdresser

Lewis made her debut in Bette Midler’s Beaches playing the role of “Diva,” and has since gone on to earn the unofficial title of “The Mother of Black Hollywood” for her wide reaching roles and activism. She played Aunt Helen on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, currently appears on Black-ish as Ruby, and has lent her voice to Disney movies like Cars and The Princess and the Frog. In this video, she shared “an oldie but goodie” to encourage her followers for vote for President-Elect (then Presidential candidate) Joe Biden.

Treat Williams plays Regina’s ex-boyfriend, Carl

If you were into Everwood in high school, you’ll recognise Williams as the dad, Dr. Andy Brown. He also recently had recurring roles on Blue Bloods and Chicago Fire.

But before all of this, Williams was actually a Broadway guy, appearing in everything from Grease (he played Danny!) to The Pirates of Penzance and Follies. So yes, this obviously means that Williams is an accomplished singer and has been his thing so for some time — whether or not Everwood fans had any idea.

Jeanine Mason plays Regina’s assistant Felicity

Mason got her start as a dancer; she actually won the fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance. Since then, she’s made the jump to acting and currently plays Liz on Roswell, New Mexico, and before that had a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy (and the accompanying Grey’s webseries) playing Dr. Sam Bello.

Josh Segarra plays Pastor Christian Hathaway

No matter what you’re watching — whether crime procedurals, superhero shows, or Netflix series— you’ve come across Josh Segarra before. He had recurring roles on both Chicago P.D. and Orange is the New Black, and played Adrian Chase for three years on The CW’s Arrow. But you probably didn’t see him sing in any of those shows. For that, you’ve got to head to Broadway, where he originated the role of Emilio Estefan in Get On Your Feet! the Gloria Estefan musical.

Mary Lane Haskell plays the Pastor’s wife, Jenna

This is not the first time Haskell has appeared alongside Dolly; the actor has recently become a staple of Parton productions. She recently played Miss Moody in both Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, and that’s in addition to playing Helen in an episode of Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings on Netflix.
