Amy Schumer spoke up about her exit from the Barbie film before Margot Robbie took over.
Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming film has already caused outrage among fans ahead of its July 21 release.
The Trainwreck actress was set to play the eponymous figure, based on the famed doll, until she announced her departure from the film in 2017, claiming schedule issues.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the 42-year-old was asked about her choice to stand down, as well as if she will see the completed product.
‘I can’t wait to see the movie, I think it looks awesome,’ she said.
‘I think we said it was scheduling conflicts… That’s what we said but it really was just creative differences.

‘But there’s a new team behind it and it looks like it’s very feminist and cool so will be seeing that movie.’
Host Andy Cohen couldn’t help but dig a little deeper over her response, and questioned: ‘Was it that it didn’t feel feminist and cool when you were involved in it?’
Amy simply replied: ‘Yeah.’
The I Feel Pretty actress was set to play Barbie when the film was first announced in 2016, but she announced her departure just a few months later.
‘Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,’ she said in a statement to Variety at the time.
‘The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.’
Greta signed on to helm the picture in July 2021, with Ryan Gosling, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicol Coughlan, and Dame Helen Mirren all joining the cast.
The Wolf of Wall Street actress recently talked out about taking on the role and emphasised that the doll shouldn’t be perceived as ‘sexy’.
‘I’m like, Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs,’ she told Vogue.
‘If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think she could.
‘She is sexualized. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her. Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.’
You tell ‘em.
Barbie will be released in UK cinemas on July 21, 2023.
