The Borat sequel opens with a blackface warning, due to the inclusion of pictures of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau in offensive make-up.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, the eagerly awaited sequel to Sacha Baron Cohen’s first Borat film in 2006, dropped on Amazon Prime on Friday amid much controversy.

And even before viewers get to that Rudy Giuliani scene, they are warned about the content of the film.

Amazon Prime has affixed a content warning to the start of the film, telling viewers to expect ‘sexuality, drug use, foul language, nudity, blackface’.

The blackface warning precedes a section in which Borat, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, is told about US politics by the Kazakhstani president.

Five minutes into the film, Borat is released from the Gulag 14 years after the events of the original film and brought to the president, who shares that America has been ‘ruined by an evil man who stood against all American valued, His name? Barack Obama.’

Borat replies: ‘This led to other Africans becoming political leaders’, with the film cutting to a photo of Trudeau wearing blackface while dressed as Aladdin at an Arabian Nights themed party.

This April 2001 photo, which appeared in a newsletter from the West Point Grey Academy, shows a costumed Justin Trudeau, his face and hands darkened by makeup, attending an

The picture was taken in 2001 at a private school where a then 29-year-old Trudeau was teaching, and was published by Time last year.

Following the publication of the image, Trudeau admitted to having worn blackface make-up on a different occasion to sing Day-O by Harry Belafonte.

The politician told Time: ‘I shouldn’t have done that. I should have known better and I didn’t. I’m really sorry’, and when asked if he thought the picture was racist, he said: ‘Yes it was. I didn’t consider it racist at the time, but now we know better.’

Trudeau is one of many political figures targeted in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, with former New York City mayor and Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani particularly coming under fire.

In one scene, Giuliani, 76, goes to a hotel room with 24-year-old actress Maria Bakalova, who he believes to be a TV journalist but is playing Borat’s teenage daughter.

The scene sees Giuliani put his hands into his trousers while lying on the hotel room bed, before Borat bursts into the room to say: ‘She’s 15! She’s too old for you.’

Giuliani has called the scene a ‘complete fabrication’, claiming that he was tucking in his shirt after taking off the recording equipment.

However, Baron Cohen as Borat ‘defended’ the clip in an innuendo-laden TikTok video.

The Kazakhstani journalist said: ‘I here to defend America’s mayor Rudolph Giuliani. What was an innocent sexy time encounter between a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter have been turned into something disgusting by fake news media.

‘I warn you, anyone else try this and Rudolph will not hesitate to reach into his legal briefs and whip out his subpoenas.’

Vice President Mike Pence also features in the film, as Baron Cohen crashes his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference dressed as Trump while carrying a woman over his shoulders.

The film ends by encouraging viewers to vote in the upcoming US presidential election.
