The 52-year-old actor will be stepping down from playing 007 after the release of No Time To Die in 2021.
He’s now the longest-serving James Bond after 14 years starring in movies such as Casino Royale and Skyfall.
So naturally, he’s quite precious about handing over the baton and the next Bond certainly has big boots to fill.
Offering his words of, ahem, encouragement, Daniel said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: ‘Don’t f**k it up. Leave it better than when you found it.
‘Don’t f**k it up. It’s a beautiful, amazing thing. I don’t know what else to say, really.’
He added: ‘Is that alright? Can I say that? Probably not!’ to which Fallon reminded him: ‘You’re allowed to do whatever you want. You’re James Bond!’
Of course, Daniel’s replacement is yet to be chosen – or at least announced – and it’s unlikely fans will find out any time soon with No Time To Die delayed yet again to April 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic.
The blockbuster being pushed back has been to the detriment of cinema chain Cineworld, which has announced the closure of their theatres with a lack of new movies to keep their seats filled.
Elsewhere in his chat with Fallon, Daniel praised Billie Eilish’s Bond song for No Time To Die and revealed the measures the cast have to take to keep the soundtrack under wraps.
‘What normally happens is there’s a rough cut of the song that the musician will record and it happened with Adele and it happened with Billie as well,’ Daniel revealed.
‘[We’re] sort of secretly sent a music file to our phone and we all try and keep it as secret as we possibly can because it’s important to keep it under wraps. But I need to listen to it and earphones are never quite good enough. My offices at Pinewood are right next to the other offices so I can’t crank it up.’
He added: ‘I’ll get in a car and crank it up somewhere and listen to it 10 or 15 times because you need to vibrate with the song.’
The actor then previewed an exclusive teaser of the next Bond installment, in which he’s almost run over by a car in a tense chase.
No Time To Die is set for release on April 2 2021.
