Netflix has delivered another gem in the form of the brilliantly ridiculous Deadly Illusions, which has been keeping people hooked during lockdown.

It’s your typical soapy, psychological (but not too taxing) erotic thriller, with a cast led by Sex and the City star Kristin Davis.

She plays writer, wife and mother Mary who has to pen another book for financial reasons. In order to concentrate on her work, her husband Tom (Dermot Mulroney) encourages her to hire a nanny.

The couple take on Grace to pitch in with taking care of the children, but Mary soon finds herself having sexually charged moments with the young woman, which she then puts into her book.

There’s one particularly tense moment when Mary takes Grace shopping for bras, then casually hops in the changing room with her young employee as she tries them on.

The upbeat young nanny, who has a similar chemistry with Tom at the same time, is also harbouring a secret – she is actually a deeply troubled and violent young woman and wreaks bloody havoc on Mary and Tom’s life.

The ending has really got viewers talking. When Grace is eventually caught by the police, she is placed into a facility where Mary goes to visit her.

At the end one woman leaves in a disguise, but it is not revealed exactly who walks out.

Despite it being as wild and cheesy as it sounds, people just had to get to the end, which is probably why it landed in Netflix’s Top 10 when it launched earlier this month.

Kristin recently responded to criticism on Instagram, telling a fan who said it made them ‘uncomfortable’ that she ‘gets’ why they struggled to watch.

Deadly Illusions is available to watch on Netflix.
