Doctor Strange set to battle himself as he meets up with Wanda Maximoff in epic Multiverse of Madness trailer

The trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness has officially been released, with it making some huge reveals about the future of the MCU.

Spider-Man: No Way Home fans will have already seen the trailer in the cinema, but with Marvel officially releasing it, the hype is definitely amping up for the movie’s May 2022 release.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the sorcerer, who is attempting to find out more about the multiverse, which has already wreaked havoc across the universe.

As we catch up with him following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, he says: ‘The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.’

Strange is then told: ‘Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished’ as he insists: ‘It was the only way. But I never meant for any of this to happen.’

As Strange goes in search of help, we see him locate Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), who is still reeling after the events of WandaVision.

‘I know sooner or later you’d show up,’ she says. ‘I made mistakes and people were hurt.’

‘I’m not here to talk about Westview,’ Strange tells her. ‘I need your help. What do you know about the multiverse?’

But are they set to team up, or will their differing views see them turn on each other?

As the world appears to fall apart around them, a voice tells Strange: ‘I hope you understand, the greatest threat to our universe is you.’

A shadowy figure, identical to Strange, appears, telling him: ‘Things just got out of hand’.

So, who exactly is the sorcerer about to battle? The shadowy figure appears to be Strange Supreme, a variant of Doctor Strange introduced in the Marvel series What If…?

Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong will star alongside Benedict in the upcoming film, which follows the first instalment, released in 2016.

Meanwhile, Chiwetel Ejiofor will also appear as Mordo.

Director Scott Derrickson quit the project last year due to ‘creative differences’ with Marvel Studios, although he has stayed on as executive producer.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi later took over.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is released in May 2022.
