Jamie Foxx will reprise the role of Electro in the upcoming Spider-Man film, according to reports.

The actor, 52, had previously portrayed the super-villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 – when Sony Pictures had the rights to the Marvel Comics character – with Andrew Garfield playing Spidey.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie ‘is in final talks’ to appear on screen alongside Tom Holland, who currently plays Spider-Man, for the third instalment in the series.

Tom is set to return for the upcoming film, alongside supporting cast members such as Zendaya, Marisa Tomei and Jacob Batalon.

Jon Watts, who directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, will once again be behind the camera for the new project, with Marvel chief Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal handling production.

Filming for the movie was set to begin in July, but got postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many other films and TV shows also having to shut down production.

Shooting is now expected to begin by the end of 2020, and wrap up in February 2021.

Few details are known about what fans can expect from the film, although it seems to suggest the idea that the many Spider-Man movies from over the years will be merging into the current series.

It comes after Tom’s future in the MCU faced uncertainty due to a dispute between Disney and Marvel, with it eventually being decided that Spidey will continue to appear in Marvel films.

The actor told Yahoo! Entertainment: ‘I’m really glad to be back in the MCU and to have the team back together because I kind of feel that’s where he belongs now.’

His efforts also saw him trusted with all the secrets for Spider-Man 3, despite some old habits that have seen him drop a few spoilers.

Tom added: ‘I know everything now. I had my big pitch meeting with Marvel and Sony for about two weeks, and I know all the secrets.

‘I’ve done about a thousand interviews, so I know how to not spoil a movie anymore.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Jamie Foxx and Marvel for comment.

The upcoming Spider-Man movie is expected to be released on December 17 2021.
